No,
Tell me what seguin has done that makes him so much better in your mind?
Other than what the Media told I to think I mean
Younthink Jeff carter, duchene and Marchand are better than Taylor hall ?
Please tell me you're joking - HB77
I really would have liked to see how Seguin and Hall compared if they were on the same world championship team the last two years. |

Hall has never had a 30 goal season so not really too surprising. - Leafsandbolts
like Hedman has never had a 15 goal season, let's just use arbitrary lines for deciding if a player is good or not |

Just asking but how would you rate these 4 defensively..?? - Ur Not Me
all decent
Carter is nothing special but probably overrated cause kings. While hall is underrated defensively cause oilers
I'd guess they're all assumed to be better two way players. I dunno
Hall is a better player than all of them

Carter, Marchand, Hall, Duchene.
Its (frank)ing near a crapshoot choosing between the first three. |

Hasn't reached 30 in six years. Funny he didn't mention that |

Lets start from the beginning.....he said Hall was better than Tavares and seguin......I'm not even going to comment on that. Jeff Carter....Marchand.....both back check....hit, score.....oh yeah and win Stanley cups. They know how to win...its that simple.....duschene is one of the most underrated players in the game. He also took an avalanche team from the absolute basement to a playoff berth...hall....not so much....,question you have to ask is what has Taylor hall ever done in the NHL to justify a spot on a national team? Win a championship?...ok how about just make a playoff appearance....ok....how about not finish in the bottom 10 of the league since he was drafted.....ok....how about win a scoring championship.....or a league award...lady byng? Rocket Richard? Anything.......just tell me what he's ever done....the. We can talk. |

I didn't feel this way when they were drafted and I still don't feel this way now. Far as I'm concerned its pretty much a (frank)ing wash. Both are super talented. - Wildschwein
I guess. I dont know (frank) all about hockey. Go by what i see. Seguin got dragged through the mud and left for the wolves by getting traded. Could have sulked and boo whod. Instead he pulled up his socks and went to a whole different level. Still havent seen that from Hall. Everyone is just glad he made a whole season for once. Hall has a lot to prove in my opinion. He is on his way though. This season will be big for him. Good or bad. Hoping for the best. With mc david and new changes Hall seems more interested to me which is good. Team needs to do whatever it takes to support Hall and mc david. Easier said then done. |

You don't have to comment on hall being better than seguin or JT. Doesn't make it any less debateable.
Hall hits, back checks and scores. In fact he's outscores those guys generally speaking over the last few years.
U say duchene is underrated. I say hall clearly is. How did u see That as a valid point?
Duchene had more help than hall. And better tending by far. And more insulation from vets. He didn't drag them by himself.
Because Jeff carter plays on the Kings that makes him better? This is your logic ? If you've played on a championship team it automatically makes u better than someone who hasn't ? Is carter better than Tavares then? Or should a name a thousand other instances where your contention makes no sense
What individual league awards has duchene, Marchand, carter, seguin won?
would the Bruins not have won if they had hall instead of seguin? And if the oilers had went with Tyler, and hall had a ring with Boston would u look at him completely differently cause he happened to get drafted by a good team ?
Your post was so bad and so flawed |

You are so biased.
Jeff Carter was one of the best players on the last gold medal winning team.
Duschene didn't do it you're right; but to say he had help but Taylor hall didn't....I'm pretty sure hall had several first overal, picks....
If you think hall is better good for you....but there's a reason the hockey management team left him Off the last 2 years. There's also a reason why the oilers are stuck in the basement...,is hall talented....very, very talented....but the guy is so 1 dimensional.....Phil Kessel was left off team USA as well....kinda for the same reason. When these guys aren't scoring..,,they aren't doing a lot more than that.
Brad Marchand has something hall doesn't either...and that's chemistry....with Bergeron.....the end.
You think you actually know better than hockey Canada.? And you say my post are flawed and bad.....oh boy. |

Agreed. Team Canada is a whole different beast. Basically like the playoffs. Sure you might win a game or two but 5 or 6 goals but when it counts it is about defense and holding a lead. As for Hall i see him on the offense side but down or up a goal i dont see him on the ice with 5mins left. Doesnt mean he cant change. Hoping he does actually. The head down charging like a moose through the neutral zone has to change though. Way to many unforced errors turnovers |

So I see some unpleasantries about the Canadian roster. The US managed to (frank) their roster worse than any other. I'm rooting for team North America and for Tortorella to be coaching a team in China next year. |

THANK YOU!
Finally someone that doesn't just listen to what NHL analysts say!
Malkin's Two-way game has vastly improved over the year's, especialyl his defense.
Early in his career, his defensive play wasn't that great, but now, he plays a great underrated defensive game. - EdmHockeyMan

Totally underselling Malkin. He might not be elite defensively but his D game is much better than league average.
Calling Malkin's D game no better than league average is a slap in the face to a player who could dominate 95% of the league 1 on 1. (and yes I realize the game isn't played 1 on 1 ) - RonPielep
I disagree, but this stems from my belief that there's minimal difference defensively between the majority of players in the league. With a few exceptions on both sides, I think most players fall very neatly into a closely comparable group.
Landeskog, Datsyuk, Kopitar, Stastny, Pavelski, Little, Kesler, Flippula, Bergeron, Toews, Hossa, Backstrom, Thronton, Cullen, Boyle, and O'Reilly is the base of my list of truly stand-out defensive players. I'm sure I missed a few here n there, but the list is very short.
Aside from those, you have guys like Krejci, Hagelin, Cizikas, Couterier, RNH, Kruger, Crosby, Giroux, etc who are a step above average.
Next is where I see Malkin. Maybe I exaggerated in saying what I did, but I just don't see enough from him as far as defensive-zone usage to justify placing him in any higher tier. Sure, he absolutely CAN dominate you 1 on 1 or even 1 on 2 and his game has taken notable steps in that regard, but I couldn't put him in a higher tier than a Marleau, Eakin, or Soderberg. I could be missing his standout defensive games; these lists are skewed often by viewings and obviously the odd personal bias.
Unfortunately for this argument, there's no definitive and consistent way to perfectly gauge defensive play so I could very well make the argument that Phil Kessel is elite defensively and simply claim anyone who disagrees with me doesn't watch him enough. |

So if the Oilers had Toews instead of Hall they would have won 3 cups? - ifiwasgm
If they had toews they would have made the playoffs....and who knows right? Blackhawks finished dead last p...drafts toews and Kane..,a few other good pieces...oh yeah then won 3 cups. Oilers drafted first overall a few times....room hall with one of them....to date....still haven't seen the playoffs. Does that answer your question?
Oh yeah, al,oat forgot, he also won 2 gold medals....did I miss anything? |

Not saying I agree with the Toews = overrated comment, but you're comparing the beginning of Edmonton's "tear down, scorched Earth" rebuild to the end of Chicago's "tired of mediocrity, but still a decent FA destination" rebuild. Apples and oranges. Chicago already had Seabrook, Keith, Hjalmarsson, Barker (bad now, great prospect), and Wisniewski working through their system. Edmonton had Petry.
Edmonton (frank)ed up a lot, but their screw-ups and this rebuild are mostly where they are due one thing: Ryan Whitney's steep and sudden decline.
He started great with 27 points in 35 games playing like 25+ minutes a night and running a bad, but not horrendous D corps with Gilbert, Smid, Foster, and Petry. Had he not pretty much "lost a leg", I'm confident saying Edmonton would've been out of their rebuild for a couple years by now. Had they drafted Kulikov rather than Paajarvi in 2009, it would've also helped their cause as you always draft Dmen first (see Chicago and Pittsburgh). |
