Lone football/espn hate post of the day...

ESPN can't stop talking about how much Fitzpatrick is a god and how the Jets need him so badly and they will win the superbowl with him..

Yeah, he's just a 26 year old pro athlete. Would probably enjoy downtown Buffalo and it's fine establishments just as much as Toronto.
- SameOld

You need to do your research . Buffalo was just named #1 vacation destination in America. Was in Toronto last weekend . The city has lost its charm . All the High rises blackout the sun in what used to be an amazing downtown . Met with old friends that all used to live there and we all agreed . No desire to move back there now. Just another big ugly metropolis with the urban blight.

I hope the Sabres pull restrictions in only allowing a certain amount of tickets to non western ny residents. Would only be fair.
- bluengold12

I honestly could see Sabre fans selling their tickets how could anybody be in a room with these people

Highly doubt he gives two poops about that.

Maybe one poop, though.

That poop came from the new logo with the booty at the bottom of the leaf

Crosby reportedly makes 4.5 million in endorsements...apparently it would be eleventy-million if he played for Toronto, because you can only make good money being a Leaf

Haha Sabres were pretty good last year.

And lets be real for second, the city of Buffalo has a lot going for it. It... Umm, it got a lot of snow two years ago, that was pretty cool.

By playing in Pittsburgh or being Crosby?

So let's say Crosby gets endorsements from Primanti Brothers. I would think if he played for, lets say Philadelphia, he could get the same endorsements from a Gino's or Pats

Two rebuild are done a bit differently. Toronto has a lot of young prospects and a few players JVR, Loupel who have big cap hits that I'm sure the team wants to get rid of. You have two young promising defenceman and hell after that.
Buffalo has two established franchise players in O'Riley and Eichel and a blue chip prospect in Reinhart. We also have two young promising defenceman and hell after that. We've got a few question marks/vets that I think give us the edge right now. That and (injury risk aside) give us the edge in goal tending to.
I agree getting Matthews this year for you will definitely be a big boost but I'm not so sure without Stamkos your season will be much different than ours was this year.
IE: Show promise, but ultimately finish around 7th - 10th worst

- bluengold12

To be fair, I can't imagine why the Leafs would want to get rid of JVR. A top line winger at a 4.25 cap hit? Yeah, that's really good. Not every vet has to go. He's the kind of guy you need on a young team where most of the core offensive threats are young.

With you on Lupul though

Exactly though why I say the Leafs are a year behind Buffalo. What they did this year is probably what the Leafs are doing next season. In terms of the top 6 it's pretty solid. JVR, Kadri, and Komarov can bring the veteran presence and skill to the top 6. Insulate Matthews on the second line to start out. If you have Stamkos then that is a huge boost. Nylander will either be third line center in that situation or if Stamkos appears then possibly moves to the wing. Marner could also crack the roster and bring an exciting rookie season. I don't know if Bozak sticks around, but if he does in that scenario you get a really good third line center. There is a lot of skill up front.

Defense is definitely a work in progress. Rielly has made huge steps the past year and definitely is the #1 D for the team. Gardiner can handle second pairing duties just fine. Zaitsev adds to the mix. But, the blueline does need time to mature and to keep adding guys. If it was remotely close to being seen as a completed project I wouldn't be expecting only moving out of the bottom 5.

Buffalo got a head start, so not surprising they are ahead. I kind of expect the pattern of being about a year behind to hold until things even out a bit.
this IMO may be the difference

Agent Don Meehan is people who know people.

meehan

Stamkos’ agent is Don Meehan.

A quick glance at Meehan’s stable of clients reveals some familiar names like Evander Kane, Robin Lehner, David Legwand, Matt Moulson, and Ryan O’Reilly.

Those aren’t just Sabres but high-profile, big money players— all acquired/signed since GMTM took over.

Murray is collecting Meehan clients like we used to collect hockey cards and this working relationship plays significantly in Buffalo’s favor.

- homiedclown

It is a fun point to comment on. Although to be fair...Meehan has an insane amount of clients. I wouldn't be shocked if the guy is the agent for all the NHL players eventually...Guy is at least over 100 clients.

It's an interesting point. It could play a role, or might not. In the end it's up to Stamkos to decide where he wants to go. His agent isn't moving to where he signs, he is. Maybe Meehan can put in a good word, or maybe he can negotiate for a bit more with Buffalo with the long running working relationship, I don't know.

Could be an advantage there.

Yeah I don't understand why every UFA discussion turns out into some city vs. city pissing matchup. Stamkos will make a choice, at some point, soon, and we have nothing to do with it. Maybe he'll choose the hometown highlights, maybe not.
