Wouldn't that eat up all of the Sabres' cap monies? What happens with girglesons, foligno, rustolian, etcs? - Streit2ThePoint

True that. There is a reason the focus of the article was arguing that less media attention is basically the biggest reason he'd go to Buffalo. Not the most powerful of arguments, but kind of the necessary one to go with.
Honestly, Toronto is basically just a year behind Buffalo on the rebuild. What really matters to Stamkos is basically only known to Stamkos. If he just wants to avoid attention then take a bit less money and stay in Tampa. With the guys that stepped up this year he could be less focal if he can just take enough money to fit into the cap mix there.
I think Buffalo is a solid option. Though have to say it's for the right reasons. They have some money to throw around and have some nice young players. Though that's basically the same for Toronto as well. The question whether he's going to Toronto, Buffalo, back to Tampa, or anywhere else is what matters most to him. He can get a lot of positives in various places (money, a bright future, Cup Contender, fame, etc.). But we'll have to see what combination matters most to him. - FlareKnight
this IMO may be the difference

Agent Don Meehan is people who know people.
meehan
Stamkos’ agent is Don Meehan.
A quick glance at Meehan’s stable of clients reveals some familiar names like Evander Kane, Robin Lehner, David Legwand, Matt Moulson, and Ryan O’Reilly.
Those aren’t just Sabres but high-profile, big money players— all acquired/signed since GMTM took over.
Murray is collecting Meehan clients like we used to collect hockey cards and this working relationship plays significantly in Buffalo’s favor. |

Best fit is Montreal . But I do not think he wants to be in a city where if he has a bad game or games . Fans are harassing him and his family . His years in Tampa he enjoyed just blending in . Still would not surprise me if he stayed in Tampa. - Maximum Signal
You guys buddies? That's awesome you know what he wants. Jealous. |

I know he'll never come to Winnipeg but we as well have an owner with very deep pockets, we have a great mix of existing talent and great prospects, and can guarantee to play him at centre. The Jets are one of those teams you should be expecting to break out soon and get to that next level. |

Two rebuild are done a bit differently. Toronto has a lot of young prospects and a few players JVR, Loupel who have big cap hits that I'm sure the team wants to get rid of. You have two young promising defenceman and hell after that.
Buffalo has two established franchise players in O'Riley and Eichel and a blue chip prospect in Reinhart. We also have two young promising defenceman and hell after that. We've got a few question marks/vets that I think give us the edge right now. That and (injury risk aside) give us the edge in goal tending to.
I agree getting Matthews this year for you will definitely be a big boost but I'm not so sure without Stamkos your season will be much different than ours was this year.
IE: Show promise, but ultimately finish around 7th - 10th worst

Who'd want to play for that hack Shanaban anyway?
In all seriousness the dollar is another thing to think about, seen as it's worth a lot more right now then the loonie |

so all the pressure on the world on his shoulders has a player ever worked out going to a place they are from? It seems they all failed because of the pressure |

You are sure of that ? He won't decide to take a hometown discount or the no state tax might sway his decision ? Playing golf in December is always nice. Nothing is an absolute . No one ever really knows the actual players thought process till he pulls the trigger. - Maximum Signal
You know what else is nice. Millions upon millions of endorsement money, God like status, free dinners for life and wearing the C in a team's centennial season.
And I guess having your life long friends and family around the corner is decent as well. |

Players are plaid in US dollars making the Canadian housing market look a heck of a lot better than it would at par. |
