There is value to BUF to have Stamkos in house before July 1.

Guys might waive NMC's or other FA's take a look they wouldn't have before.

That was some fun back reading...

I expected a little more fireworks.

There's going to be a few teams lining up to talk to Stamkos IF he hits FA (I think he will but it still has to happen first). Buffalo and Toronto will have the same positive and negatives when it comes to Stamkos making a decision if you are looking strictly at the roster.

Canadian housing market vs Buffalo housing market is clearly in Buffalo's favor and if you don't think that you have no clue what you're talking about.

Toronto as a big city has more of a draw to a single mid twenty year old hockey player over Buffalo.

The pressure factor could come into play. He would have pressure from both teams but the Toronto pressure would be at least 5 times as greater.

Both city's sports media is garbage but there is more of them in Toronto so advantage Buffalo.

Stamkos would be THE GUY in Toronto and one of THE GUYS in Buffalo leading the charge. For this coming year advantage Buffalo.

The teams that aren't talked about IMO are the ones that need to be worried about. Detroit is my dark horse if they can trade that Datsyuk contract.

This all falls on Stamkos and what he wants to do no matter what we say. It is fun to talk about it for the most part.

Now 89 bringing in info...that's the only way to put this to bed. Trade for his rights and go from there. I don't think even though I could be wrong he has to waive his NTC for his rights to be traded though so that's not a guarantee.

If I was a GM I would try to trade for his rights and get him signed before the draft. It helps you build your roster to make other trades on draft day to improve your roster and build your prospect pool.

What would you guys trade for his rights? Conditional 3rd. If he signs Tampa gets a 3rd if not they get a 6th? Or would it cost more?

We could give him 8 years instead of 7

This!!!

Most of the trades happen at the draft. If you have a player like Stamkos signed under contract you could make a lot more moves.

negative

the ONLY team that can sign him to 8 years is Tampa. He has to be on that team by the trade deadline I believe (maybe even earlier in the year)

I wasn't on board with trading for rights until recently. I think it would be big to whoever can do so to have so much time before June 26 or whenever the pre-UFA talking period starts.

Turned out badly, but it worked with Ehrhoff, and he was someone who had his rights traded prior, said no to NYI, and then went to Buffalo and said yes.

I'd offer our 3rd, and it becomes our second if he signs

Isles gave a fourth to Couver for Erhoff's negotiating rights.

Buf has a four and a ton of threes.

Done!

Then you either trade the 8th pick plus for a D or draft one. The only thing that hurts is not having a selection in the top 2 rounds but you're adding 2 hell of roster players.
