Hedman is soft, Hedman can skate very well and has a great hockey IQ but he is soft. Maybe he was just hurt this series but he looked pretty poor. He doesn't really use that massive body of his to move people, he relies more on his stick and speed but what happens when his speed gets a little slower as he ages?
- Kucherovski

Just when I thought you had regained an ounce of sanity, I read that first line.... And it's gone.

Now you're just sounding dumb, where did you think up eBay. Something you do regularly? Did you forget what draft picks are for?
- tpd11

Tell me their rocket scientist man, what's the ratio the goalies picked in the draft that fail/succeed?

Where do you think they come from a goalie tree? They're all draft picks or signed out of college.

I guess I'm not sure I understand why. Hedman is 6'6", 220+ pounds and he had 62 hits this season, all season. His biggest hit game was 3 hits, he did not have one game where he had over 3 hits. Maybe I didn't explain what I mean by soft, he doesn't use his body and play the physical game back on D is where I was going with "soft".

Try this then, what is the likelihood we pick somebody even remotely good as Vasy?

Go back and read it to you by other comments, before you go spouting off at the mouth. I say that we should keep Bishop and Vasy as long as we don't retain Stamkos, which looks like isn't going to happen anyways.

You forgot you said you have to take one of the Dallas goalies back. Take one of them back and you get very little cap space. If Dallas moves one of their goalies somewhere else first then cool, makes sense but if they get the Dallas backup, lets say Niemi because he is older, the Lightning save very little money.
- Kucherovski

NiemI is signed at 4.5. Bishop is going to be asking for 7.5-9 mil. That's a 3-5 million savinga that can go elsewhere.

He doesn't "Gudas" it up, makes smart plays and takes the body hard when needed.

You don't have to hit to be a good hockey player. Top D men in the league barely hit.

All in all the lightening had a great season.......gotta be happy with how they played without Stamkos and Stralman this year. Great squad.....only gonna get better. Yzerman built a legit team...

In his defense I don't believe Dallas'S D is as good as the Lightnings. And if Vasi is taking the majority of the starts it could work. Especially if the extra dough is used to strengthen the D

62 hits is barely using the body. I would say Doughty is one of the best D in the league and he had double the amount of hits compared to Hedman.

Doughty is as over rated as they come. Keith, Karlsson, Klingberg, Letang, Burns, Hedman.. you know why they don't have as many hits? Because their teams usually have the puck when they're on the ice. Don't have to hit when you control the puck.

At 25 we've got a long while before we need to worry about him losing his speed

As for the bolded...just stop. Heds is in the upper echelon of dman across the entire league.

As for this series I think credit needs to go to Pens for how Hedman looked. Heds is at his best using his speed to either carry the puck or jump into the play but pens forecheck had us hemmed in the d-zone for vast stretches of the series. Maybe he was fatigued from carrying his partner(s) in the first 2 rounds, but it also has to be mentioned that his partner for this series (Stralman) was a shell of his normal self as well so that probably played a role also

Doughty also doesn't do what Hedman does in other areas. You are cherry-picking one stat for Hedman when his real value lies elsewhere. Again, please stop with this. Hedman is in top 10 maybe top 5 dman across the entire league

I agree but was trying to not be too homerish. He definitely is top 10 but I'd put him top 5. Even if he's not top 5 "right now" at 25 he will be VERY VERY soon

What do you want him to do, have a big, bruising open ice hit every shift he's on the ice? I'd rather have Hedman do what he does, good boardplay, great breakout passes, tremendous speed, etc. than have him be try to be a physical and imposing defenseman. Tell me, who would you rather build a team around, Nick Lidstrom or Chris Pronger. Come on man, some of the stuff you say is just flat out ridiculous
