If you base your team off of analytics alone, you won't be successful.
- Codes1087

People are evaluating Gudbranson with analytics…nothing more. They say Benning is an idiot who should've just signed luke Schenn if he wanted a big young physical defenseman.

Apparently Gudbranson is very handsome.

This should make 95% of the Canucks fans very happy.

Serious question: Why make this trade now? You could sign a comparable player in Luke Schenn without giving up a promising fwd that will surely be needed in a couple years.

It's a shame what Benning is doing to the Canucks and their fans (said nobody).

What are you implying?

And those people would be right. Watched lots of Panthers games...he's not great.

That's exactly what I am saying. Analytics, while important, are not the be-all end-all. I am less concerned about Gudbransons possession numbers, controlled defensive zone exits, and +/- than I am about his future contract with Benning signing him, or the 2nd round (33 OA) going back. I think Benning, at this point, will get poop on even if he makes a brilliant lop-sided trade in his favor, just because of the fanbase and his history.

I don't give a (frank) what Forsling is doing in the SEL. Come talk to me when he makes the NHL clearly that trade didn't workout but the rationale to make the move was there.
- CanuckDon

there are some folks who are really looking forward to seeing him in a Hawks sweater over on JJs blog... but the Hawks are in need of legit dmen from 4-7... so they might be a bit desperate for some hope.

He hasn't won a trade yet! And you know damn well he's gonna overpay Gudbranson when the time comes, it's his MO, he's an idiot.

His one saving grace is he can evaluate prospects and draft well….unfortunately they only have two picks in the top four rounds now.

Cup rings are Cup rings man; a guy who gets laid once when he's 18 but never again isn't a virgin, but a 40 year old who's never been laid is. Care to share your franchise success?

I have my own reservations about this trade, but I am not going to blow a hissy fit like 90% over the people on here. In a perfect world, Benning stepping down to a head scout role and someone like Tallon taking over as GM would be ideal. Hopefully no Bolland contracts tho

so you are basically saying you'd want a front seat to my murder at the hands of Marwood and his cruising van

(you said bus, so not sure if you're implying you'd hijack one)...

- kaptaan

Is there an extra seat?

Luke Schenn is 26 and proven to be a marginal 5/6 player.

Gudbranson is a legit 4-6 dman who may improve over the next two years to get to a 2-3 depth position in the next two years...

I don't believe I ever started criticizing leafs moves like you are doing with Benning's? Hey man, 28 years is a long time though, you can always go downtown and pay for it... Sorry to hear that.

Not happening….when the Canucks finish tenth last next year because they have no top six forwards Jim Benning will be fired along with his idiot boss. And unfortunately the process will continue until ownership realizes you have to build a winner through the draft.

And on and on it goes...

I never stated it was Canucks fans specifically. Look at the last 25 pages over the last 2 blogs though. Pens fans. Leafs fans (obviously). Oil fans. Jets Fans. Everyone is giving their professional GM opinions on how this trade is heavily favored for FLA
