Good thing we didn't go after Drouin.

I didn't say anything aboutSbisa being bad or Gudbranson?

I'm saying that those guys had played around 300 games when the Canucks acquired them and by that point regardless of age or draft position you have a pretty decent idea of what the player will be. Sbisa has improved, although marginally IMO, Gudbranson will also improve but what's his realistic ceiling at this point? A more physical Garrison? Willie Mitchell?

Maybe I'm setting my bar low and those guys are useful players but I like the potential of McCann, the 33 and the 123 of getting a more impactful player or players than what Gudbranson is/potential and the 5th.

Who knows, I'm not upset about the trade, I'm just not confident it will work out for us.

I doubt any of us are confident about the trade. It's funny to hear it definitively called when there won't even be games for 4 months. Potential and picks take years to come out.

I do think it was a strange move to bring in a contract like EG's is going to become when we're trying to grow our youth. I also think losing the pick was a bad idea when we clearly need more prospects in the system. That said, Benning has been very active on the college front and we've gotten some nice surprises in Tramekyn and Hutton (and previously Tanev). There are ways to reacquire picks, so hopefully this isn't the end of the action. It's tough to criticize when the proof will need to be on the ice.

There is another 2nd in there and Mallet and then Pedan on our side. Bieksa and Garrison moved out as well

And what about Torts for a 2nd? That was Rapology 101.

Good for the Sharks finally making the finals. I hope the Penguins beat them though.

“To be quite honest, I don’t get it sometimes,” said the Canucks GM. “There’s a place for analytics. We use analytics. But you use analytics like vitamins — to help you out, not as your staple.

“Decisions have to be made by hockey people who know what winning teams look like and how to build them.”

"I’ll be perfectly honest with you,” he says. “We won a Stanley Cup in Boston and we didn’t use analytics.”

Anyone can read & quote analytics but the eye test not everyone sees the game the same.

I just got hard reading this... But to be serious I actually couldn't agree more.. I cannot stand the full out analytics guys. You use it to help in certain situations but I don't believe for a second you build a team around it... They tried it in baseball as well, hasn't gone so great. Not that I'm comparing the 2 but guys like Yost make my head explode

I think many ppl use analytics & think they know the nuances of the game.

Love it. People forget Linden and FA had to approve the deal , but JB gets the grief.

It's starting to remind me of Nonis trading away our 2nd round picks, remember when everyone was female doging because we've got good young players in our own backyard but we don't pick them.

I can't remember who it was but he quickly reminded the person calling into 1040 that the Canucks didn't have a second round pick to take Lucic.

You know Lucic has better career points per game than Kesler, he has 397 points in 647 games. Kesler has 493 points in 815 games.

Off topic but Lucic wouldn't cost anything but money. For a team that has one current top six winger he'd look good in a Canucks sweater.

- LeftCoaster

Yes he would look good in a canucks sweater sitting in the stands as a spectator...this fascination is as bad as nucker with Kesler...

Exactly... These guys with their graphs and charts and sheets act like they know everything about a player and have never seen him play a game... I completely agree analytics are something to use as a tool not to build a team
