The season is 82 games long, if the lineup is so bad they can't absorb two injuries then it speaks volumes about the lack of talent and depth of your team.

One more thing.

We wanted Benning here so we could get.modeled more after boston with size and snarl. Benning is ditching smaller perimeter plays and finally FINALLY making this team a pain in the ass to play and people still female dog because we trade a maybe top 6 center with no size who can't play wing. All can I can is WTF. I'm so happy with this trade I can't stop smiling

Now sign Demers on the bck end and we're looking great on d

True but this draft has no D rated as top 2 anywhere.

Nor was Keith. Hell, back just after he was drafted he was ranked behind guys such as Anton Babchuk, Cam Barker, James Wizniewski, Michal Barinka, Lasse Kukkonen... well, I hope you see where I'm going with this.

To be fairing, scouting has changed a lot since 2002.

And it took Keith quite a few years to develop

Defenseman 1:
6.05 216 lbs. 24 years old
43 pts in 309 games

Defenseman 2:
6.04 225, 27 years old (at the time of trade, plus couple lbs lighter)
35 pts in 215 games (at the time: 29 in 162)

Defenseman 1:
Acquired along with 5th for McCann and a 2nd, 4th
Defenseman 2:
Acquired for a bum and a 4th rd pick

In all seriousness, I just think Benning doesn't like 2nd round picks or something

Plenty of top 4 & no clue what gem may surprise & be a sleeper if any.

Keith bounced in and out of the roster for the 1st year or 2...I remember having him in the rotisserie pool and he kept getting punted and picked up.

You know how many guys playing top two I can name who weren't "rated" as top two guys? Jesus man look around the league. Here's 12 of the top 15 point producers last year on defence.

Burns drafted 20th overall not projected to be top pairing guy.
Shea Weber, second round.
Duncan Keith, second round.
Subban, second round.
Erik Karlsson, 15th overall not projected to be top paring guy.
Kris Letang, third round.
Roman Josi, second round.
Dustin Byfuglien, seventh round.
Tyson Barrie, third round.
Mark Giordano, not even drafted.
Brent Seabrook, late first round 23rd.
John Klingberg, fifth round.

Chychrun, Sergachev, and Juolevi are all listed favourably as solid bets at top pairing Dmen. They seem to be viewed in better light than Nurse or Ristolainen in 2013. Neither Trouba nor Lindholm were held in as high regard as these three seem to be. Take that into account. None are guarantees, but it doesn't make them any less of a possibility.

It's actually a pretty deep draft for D from what I've read.

Some of the big comments coming from these posts over the year was

Top four Dmen don't grow on trees

We don't have the parts to trade for a top 4 Dman

Florida would never trade Gadbrundson

McCann needs to be sent down , he is not ready.

It doesn't matter what JB does. There are a group that hate everything he does and a group that love everything he does. .

travis hamonic, 3rd round. only could draft him because the isles trade for more draft picks, not less.

The fact that none of them could contribute says moreā€¦it says your system lacks depth, your talent level needs to improve, it also says your team isn't in a position to compete so don't trade away your picks and prospects.

Every team has injuries.

I'd just like to point out that trading our second round picks goes way back. since 1999 the Canucks have had 8 second round picks, and when we didn't trade those picks away, more often than not, they ended up being busts.

2002- Kiril Koltsov, Defence
2003- Marc-Andre Bernier, Right Wing
2005- Mason Raymond, Left Wing
2007- Taylor Ellington, Defence
2008- Yann Sauve, Defence
2009- Anton Rodin, Right Wing
2012- Alexandre Mallet, Left Wing
2014- Thatcher Demko, Goaltender

1 NHLer, 1 blue chip prospect, 1 possible prospect. It seems when we have chosen Defence in the second round it hasnt really worked out well for us
so maybe stop thinking that 33OA was gonna be a surefire future top 4 Defenceman

Immediately?

No one.

Do you think all those guys that were grabbed in later rounds and blossomed into all stars and Norris winners were labelled surefire top pairing guys?

- golfingsince

Right? Karlsson was deemed too small at about 165lbs. Doughty came in at about 20% body fat (was listed at 213lbs, is now at 195 ), and Subban also went 2nd round behind many other defensemen who are mainly nobodies...

We got an extra 5th rounder so we have a great chance at Klingberg
