This team is years away from that now ,one draft wouldnt have fixed that .They are rebuilding it just a slower version of it

Every team looking for a top 4 dman this summer can blame benning for the new astronomical price for mediocre defensemen. Young player on elc plus 2nd round pick for a bottem pair. Players like vatanen and fowler are now worth a first round a piece. Thanks benning!

Everyone complaining about yesterdays trade are the same meatheads who complain about teams running roughshod over the Canucks game after game without any push back. And we finally get our big, mean bruising dman and the world is ending. OMFG.

Give the guy a chance to show us all what he's made of before we kick him and Benning to the curb. I can bet every single guy on the Canucks roster is pumped with this deal. Maybe with the exception of Subban, Stecher, and Larsen.

Object of the game is to score, Canucks have one of the worst offensive blue lines in the NHL. Subtracting Hamhuis for Gudbranson isn't going to help there.

If you just wanted a tough, physical dman who will fight you could have kept McCann and 33rd and signed Luke Schenn, Roman Polak, etc.

miller, vrbata, sbisa, sutter, backlund, prust, baertschi,....quite the list of players benning has brought in. gudbranson seems to fit in just right with the pile of garbage.

not sure how anyone gives benning the benefit of the doubt still.

What's wrong with Gudbranson? Did you watch a pile of Fla games....or are we basing this off pie in the sky charts? I'd give him a year or 2 in Van before calling him garbage IMO

I’d take him on the leafs – for less than $3M and as a free agent. Would not give up the assets the nucks gave up for him. I don’t think he’s going to be worth the $5M plus he is probably looking for. Garbage move more than a garbage player.

Sign schenn. Do a pump and dump and pickup a 3rd at the deadline instead of giving up assets for gudbranson. Not like the nucks are winning a cup anytime soon.

i guess.

they have nurse, rienhart and can re-sign gyrba. not sure how gudrbanson is needed with that group.

oilers should be after a bigger fish imo.

- Tumbleweed

more or less I was referring to the fact that the oilers are trending up so they should look to add a dman of this age, while canucks are trending down so they should be looking to add picks and 19, 20 year old dman. The oil need a puck moving/pp guy like vatanen or someone.

Exactly what I would have done or signed a demers or someone just anyone to not give up the assets.

I'm pretty surprised to see so much negative commentary about this deal. People are putting an awful lot of value into a relatively inconsequential rookie season for McCann plus a 2nd round pick in a mediocre draft year. Conversely, at a time when acquiring top-4 defencemen is at a premium, Gudbranson can step in and balance out their top-4 defence by providing a much-needed RH shot and physical presence.

People should probably also take notice of the fact that both Willie Mitchell and Roberto Luongo were actively displeased about this trade. When a team's veteran leaders respond that way, it's usually indicative that just maybe the player involved had more value than what was recorded in their analytics dashboard.

Its not the player. Its his contract demands and the continuing to give a way picks when we have a poor prospect system and this trade does nothing to this team now other than like you said balance out the d. The problem is this team needs to conitinue to build through the draft for a couple years before adding a player like this.

Analytics to me is bull poop.

On another note we can protect 3 dmen in the upcoming expansion draft. Which will be tanev, hutton and gudbrandson.. SO say by by to edler for nothing.

NMC....protected regardless right?

We can also go with the just protecting 8 players plus a goalie route, which is probably more than we have worth protecting anyways.

No he has a no trade. Sedins have no move.

If you take 8 its those 4, sedins, horvat, JV. So it prob be tryamkin, sutter, hansen taken.

I agree....thats because those same guys are here essentially to complain.... too much estrogen/progesterone in their systems it would seem.

saddens me to see men reduced to THIS in our society
