Polak, Spalding and Reimer trades worked out... for them.

Those were good trades - the Leafs definitely got value there.

I dont think i have liked a single benning trade to be honest. I like his drafting. Im hoping the rumors of Talon coming from florida are true so he can handle trades and benning the draft.

I dont think benning has been doing a good job but i thinking its more ownership getting involved more so than what benning wants.

What rumors of talon coming here??

the point was that they whine and whine no matter what happens....we didnt sign this guy, we did sign this guy, we signed this guy and shouldve signed this other, hate the signing, hate the trade, hate the gm, this player sucks when we have him now he would have been our saviour now that we traded him.... THATS what Im referring to.

its like a bunch of whiny broads on their period here....this isnt how men are supposed to be.

So did SJ by the look of it....Polak and Spaling suck by the analytics crowd, yet there they are being scooped up at the TDL and helping a team to the finals.

Tanner, I know this piece is from September (so maybe this past season was a bad one?), but I am curious why the analytics community is bashing this trade heavily when people using it came to the conclusion that Gudbranson is a solid player who is asked to play defensive role but still manages to make his teammates better?

But his pie chart leave the ANALytics guys still hungry.

No, cause it's one of the worst trades in NHL history so anyone who is thinking it isn't just doesn't know what they're talking about. Jim Benning should have been fired ten minutes after the trade call. It's an objectively ridiculous trade.

This is good news for me cause for years I thought the Hawks made the worst trade ever when they shipped Esposito, Stanfield, and Hodge to the Bruins for Pit Martin and some clam chowder.
Think Florida will go on and win a few cups because of this trade same as the Bruins did.

Everything is "the worst" or "the best" in these blogs, so really it has zero meaning.

He's never even watched the kid play...so there's that too.

Edit: Gomez at $7.5m for McDonagh is 1000,000 worse IMO

Stop reacting to Tanner's definitive statements. They exist for the exact same reason as Garth exists - except that Tanner spreads his definitive statements around so they are less homer-ish.

He also occasionally has good ideas and sometimes(as I puke in my own mouth and swallow it) great hockey insights but I think he knows that his knowledge of hockey isn't what makes him successful in this world.

But when he says the things he says it is either for the the direct purpose of creating controversy and traffic(I'm here, it works) or because....nevermind....

In fact you could often(not always) compare Tanner's strategy to Donald Trump's strategy. Shock Value = Popularity.

In the last couple years I can think of a dozen trades that are much worse.

Seguin
Reinhart
Rielly Smith
Cam Talbot
Dougie Hamilton
Martin Erat
Vanek

to name a few...
