Thats not a good risk/reward sorry. You cant sign a guy to the biggest contract in the league on what ifs.
- kindlyrick

I think you are completely misunderstanding what I'm saying.

1st, horrible contract, not going to defend it.
2nd, Gomez is not as bad a player as people make him out to be.

I'm separating the 2. Most people can't, like you are doing now. When anyone brings up that he was a decent player, you go right to the contract.

Maybe FLA didn't want to add salary...?? They are already 3 deep at C

The Oilers like the Isles are rife with prospects and picks, and both trying to build a winner. You're not going to "win trades" on paper, but you just gotta address your needs.

If we can make one very good Dman Pickup it would huge
Leddy, Boychuck, Hamonic, UFA, Hickey and Pelech/DeHaan. would be nice defense.

I think DeHaan could be good trading chip for us. I was very disappointed with him in playoffs. Another coach could probably help him find his potential. cappy is not that guy.

Im not so sure what kinda value has around the league. He's like one shoulder seperation away from calling it quits. (not literal).

Like all trades we shall see... Gudbranson is still pretty young (24 ish?) and will bet better IMO. He was already pretty solid stay home d-man. If He gets better over the next couple of years he may be a steal.

How did you feel about the Seth Jones trade? (not being a Richard.. just asking)

- niteislander

Seth jones trade was a fair trade. Also Gubranson is in his walk year

Just out of curiosity.....how can you make the assumption that a 24 year old dman has zero offensive upside? Thats just silly. Furthermore, big minute eating dman are a lot harder to come by than talented wingers.
- kindlyrick

He has been in the league 5 years, his top total is 13 points. The game for better or worse has moved away from "stay at home dmen" you have to bring more to the table and while I really like Gubranson. I'm simply not paying that much for this type of dmen in his walk year.. That's all

Im not comparing him to Chara, but lets be honest.....Chara's first 4 season didnt have him winning the Norris with his 10 pts seasons......and then VOILA, a little age a little experience etc, and hes a norris winner. You cant say a 24 year old dman has zero offensive upside....it literally makes no sense.
- kindlyrick

This is not the same league as it was 10 even 5 years ago

Is there really a difference between 4 years and 5 years???? The point is that you simply cannot say that a 24 year old defensemen has zero offensive upside.

What does that even mean? The point was that Chara didnt develope until a few years into his career. So the same can go for Gudbranson.

Joel Ward last night with 2 goals in another big game. And he almost had the empty netter. The guy is just a big game player. Always scores goals in the big game. Too bad he wasnt scooped up by the isles.

One reason #FlaPanthers traded Erik Gudbranson: told he turned down four year deal worth $4.5m per before taking one-year bridge at $3.5.

for the record.. i don't dislike Gubranson... i would just never trade that much for him

Guys a big top 4 / 2 Dman playing 20 plus mins a game. Not gonna get that for peanuts and a coke. Fact is top four young Dman are hardly traded. I don't mind what they gave up he's a stud and play a big role in Vancouver.
Just have to wait and see how it turns out for each team
