Well then this is where we disagree......define a pretty decent player? 13 goals is not a decent player.....thats bottom 6 forward numbers. Yes he had wheels, but that does not mean he was a pretty decent player all around. Obviously I know you're not saying i signed the contract......im just saying it was a shameful contract for a guy who left a rival team for an absurd contract. I also truly believe that money was given under the table in the Mcdonough deal.

Thats fine if you are going by goals. If you are going by point totals, a lot of his seasons would have put him in the top 10 to 15 in scoring totals this year.

I have to disagree with you......on Gudbranson. He's got all the makings of a top tier dman. He's still so young, but he's got the size, can skate, and has a chippy side to him.
- kindlyrick

IMO that's way too much for a dman with zero offensive upside. I don't dislike Gubranson, I'm not trading that much for him

Like all trades we shall see... Gudbranson is still pretty young (24 ish?) and will bet better IMO. He was already pretty solid stay home d-man. If He gets better over the next couple of years he may be a steal.

How did you feel about the Seth Jones trade? (not being a Richard.. just asking)

Sure lets go by point totals.......and lets go by current NHL standards. Gomez avg'd around 60 pts a season......which contrary to what you said is not top 10 in the NHL. But, he was signed to the highest contract at the time. So, it would be like being 30th in the NHL in pts, and getting signed to what Stamkos is about to get. I get it, you're a Ranger fan and you wanna make light of the signing........but anyway you slice it, it was horrendous.

Just out of curiosity.....how can you make the assumption that a 24 year old dman has zero offensive upside? Thats just silly. Furthermore, big minute eating dman are a lot harder to come by than talented wingers.

Being that Gudbrandson was actually on the market, im SUPERRRR surprised that Edmonton didnt scoop him up. They have wingers for days.....and picks.

His 4 best seasons would put him in the top 10-15 in point totals, the 70 point season when the Rangers signed him would have made him tied for 16th with Backstrom this year.

Not once did I ever defend the contract. I actually specifically said it was a horrible contract. You're right though, I'm defending the contract because I'm a Rangers homer.

I agree with Dan on the offensive upside part of his argument... but then I agree with you on the big minute eating D-man. Compare him to Chara (not saying he is Chara.. just picking a big D-man) state at 24 and they are pretty similar. Same as an Eric Brewer.. both became huge stay home d-men that ended up captains of teams.

I kinda am as well. For the right price I think he would have been a good fit.

Ok I hate referring to stats, but you're just wrong. Gomez' last year with the Devils he had 60 pts. Who cares what number that puts him in the NHL this year or that year for that matter. He was signed to the highest contract at the time. You might be the only Ranger fan ive ever met that has said anything positive about Gomez.

Im not comparing him to Chara, but lets be honest.....Chara's first 4 season didnt have him winning the Norris with his 10 pts seasons......and then VOILA, a little age a little experience etc, and hes a norris winner. You cant say a 24 year old dman has zero offensive upside....it literally makes no sense.

For all the talk of Hamonic to the Oilers this season, and the obvious need for a 20 min a night dman, how on earth did they not scoop him? I mean, how many top 6 forwards do you really need??? They shoulda taken a pick, and RNH and said you got a deal.

And the year before that he had 84 points and 33 goals.
Rangers took a risk. Gotta do it from time to time.

I guess Florida with Ekblad and Petrovic could afford to move him.. but it may look like a really bad trade in a few years when Campbell and Mitchell are in their 40's.

Would it have looked so bad had Gomez put up another PPG season?
Rangers took a gamble. They lost. Teams do it all the time. Good player/bad contract.

And Matheson and Kulikov.

Campbell and Mitchell are both UFA's in about a month and four days.

I wasnt saying RNH and the 4th.....sorry. I should have been more clear. But, the bottom line is for the Oiler who are rife with talented forwards, and have nothing but prospects to not be in on this was shocking. I think a lot of people forget about Connor McDavid because he was hurt, and didnt catch a lot of film this year. But, he's absolutely the real deal, and is gonna be tops in the league down the road. Is there any other team with as many first overall picks playing?? Get rid of one....and get what you need.
