Well Gomez was never really a goal scorer, except I believe 1 year with the Devils. Way more of a set up guy. Had somewhere around 60 pts the year before the Rangers signed him and I think around 70 pts the 1st year with the Rangers. Not defending the contract , but I think he wasn't as bad as people remember.

He was more of a setup guy and he was a nice player, but the Rangers paid him as a big goal scorer. They overpaid Holik as well.

That 8 million dollar a year contract was roughly around the leagues top paid guys at the time. Mind you all for an assist guy. I cant, but maybe you can recall when an NHL player was paid in the upper echelon for assists alone?

Thats why I said in my post I'm not defending the contract. Not saying you did it, but I think a lot of people forget Gomez was actually a pretty decent player. It gets lost because of the contract. Also I will defend that signing everyday of the week. Without we don't get McDonagh.

Well then this is where we disagree......define a pretty decent player? 13 goals is not a decent player.....thats bottom 6 forward numbers. Yes he had wheels, but that does not mean he was a pretty decent player all around. Obviously I know you're not saying i signed the contract......im just saying it was a shameful contract for a guy who left a rival team for an absurd contract. I also truly believe that money was given under the table in the Mcdonough deal.

I think the Gomez contract at the time was the highest in the NHL. Backstrom is a bigger producer and makes what 7 million.....thats 3-4 shmill less than the top paid guys. Savard makes 4 milliion i think.......so neither example compare to the abomination of Gomez.
