The more I think about it, the more I see Stamkos re signing in Tampa. That team went to game 7 of the eastern finals without him. They're a good competative squad. I can see him staying. - kindlyrick
Chiefs put up so many posts about how it would be possible for him become an Islander I was starting to think he was already an Islander.
I don't think stays with Tampa. |

Ive always said he's Toronto bound......but I just think the Lightening are inches away from being a powerhouse in the NHL. Is there really a difference between say, 9 or 10 million vs 11 million. At that point you, your kids, your kids kids, and their kids kids are set. |

It is possible. Just my opinion, but I don't think it's unrealistic to think it's plausible also. If he wants the biggest payday he'll go to TOR, but I don't foresee them being true contenders for the Cup while Stamkos still has his useful years left in him. I think we're the team closest to contending that can fit him under the cap with little work. We're a really good fit for him and he gets to play with his buddy, Tavares. |

Totally agree, and would be a huge move for the new owners coming in showing they mean business.

It's not unrealistic and it is possible. I think the Isles will give it a shot. It would be great publicity for the new owners. On paper your points look good. He can get a big payday and play for an ascending team. Unfortunately I just don't see it happening.
I'm not sure what his priorities are. He's 26 so he may think he could make a cup run in TOR years from now. |

With the money the isles will have available one would think Garths gonna make him an offer. Perhaps the possibility of playing with JT is enough to lure him. The two of them together could be the best 1/2 punch in the league. |

Im totally being sarcastic.......i agree with you. I though it was funny that guys were very adamant about paying him up to 2.5 but not a penny more. Like theres a difference between 2.5 and 3 million for these owners. Ironically they prob spend that 500k in per diem money on these guys. |

He most certainly could win in TOR and I genuinely do think that the future is bright for them, but they're in that phase right now where they think that all their prospects are all going to hit their ceilings. We were all in that phase once. Lee and Nelson were going to be big, physical 25-30 goal, 65pt power forwards and Strome was going to be a 60pt playmaking winger. Truth is, they don't all pan out and reach their projections.
Stamkos has a much clearer picture of what the Islanders are and what they've accomplished with a relatively small amount of noteworthy talent. He may feel that his talents could be the team that gets the Islanders over the hump and turns them into a true contender. Whether or not he feels that way is another story, but (like we agree on) it's wholly possible.
I don't know who I'm trying to sell this to, but someone will buy it. |

So does Toronto's fans. Have you seen their blog recently? They are posting multiple pictures of him in a 91 Leafs uniform. They even had him on a hockey card. |

Reason they have the money to buy the Islanders is they watch every penny they spend. They don't piss it away!
MM shouldn't be signed by any team for more than 2.0 to 2.5 Million. I love the guy, and what he brings on and off the ice but 2.5 Million would be an over payment but after that you have to say uncle! |

Martin is probably worth $2M. I'd give him $2.25M because of market demands. I wouldn't cry at $2.5M, but it's an overpayment. That's why I think a penny over $2.5M shouldn't happen.
Market demand will shift his perceived value further away from his actual value, but there has to be a point where you say enough is enough. |
