Firstly, glad your Dad is A-ok! Thats terrific.

Doctors are so valuable. Its a shame that in Canada the government tries to negotiate their pay (and everyone elses) to help fund the system. They do it by specialty too, so not all doctors make the same and some get hit harder by cut backs than others. That said, family docs still start at roughly 180k. So while they don't make as much as private independent practices in the US, 180k is nothing to sneeze at - I wish I made that much. The average I would estimate to be close to 300k. Cardiologists and Opthamologists (eyes), Derm (skin), they all make 600k+ (it also depends on the province you work in). In the US the sky is the limit... which is why insurance and pharam and med tech is so profitiable but unsustainable and a big factor for the domestic deficit.

But you're right. Next day quintuplet bybass is incredibly fast and was obviously needed on an "right now" basis, not an "ASAP" basis. In Canada if you're about to die in the ER you do get attention immediatly, but you obviously don't want to be in that condition to justify those means. There is a hierarchy based on immediacy of need, just part of the system, and in some cases a drawback.

Ideally a two teired system would be good. Where the baseline of care is gov't funded for everyone and then if you can afford it you can pay extra (why people go to the US). But that has a myriad of issues that I'm too niave to even begin discussing ON A HOCKEY BLOG AND PENS FORM THE DAY OF A GAME 7!

We have Canadian offices and some employees have worked in both US and Canada. Those that have are generally undecided on which is better. Its cheaper out of pocket but fuel, cars, beer....just about everything is much more expensive including housing. They do say there is a wait, but its not necessarily free.

Colorado has a vote this year to do a single payer system. To pay for it state income tax will be 10%. It's ridiculous. I most likely will move out. A lot of companies are rumbling about moving out because it also adds 10% on payroll. CO is doing everything it can to be CA.

Prices in Canada are outrageous. Was in Saskatoon about 3 years ago, 4-5$ (IIRC) for a 4 piece nugget at Wendy's... Most people I talked to there said they made good money though at least.

When you said social media, I thought you were pertaining to Twitter, my bad. But, to see the guys in the comment section agree with what is being said by writes/bloggers/analysts on twitter, I think it reinforces the fact that he's just not good.

As long as large scale welfare systems like that stay at the state government level in fine with it. It gives people the option to if they want socialized healthcare, they can move to X state and if they don't then they can move to somwhere that doesn't have it. Also much easier to manage with a smaller demographic. Federal programs of that scale would be a disaster for this country. Way too many people to serve. Keep government as small as possible and localizing government programs increases efficiency of those programs and keeps decision making power in the hands of most people, rather than facilitating tyrany of the majority.

Beer and all booze, smokes, cars, gas is definilty more expensive. And in Ontario we pay 15% tax on everything basically. Its not free, I shouldn't have said that, but thats the price to raise the base line of care and standard of living for all.

Its my hope that it leads to a happier and more peaceful society that has a collective and inclusive attitude because everyone knows their basic needs are moreless met.

Perhaps its a case where we pay a little over a long period of time knowing that we have it when we need it and you guys pay a lot all at once when you need it.

I agree... It detracts from the playoffs. Should be a moratorium.

I wonder what the players do all day leading up to the game 7? It's not like they could go out in public without being bombarded with pictures and autographs...

That's the bottom line right there. A country this size is impossible to manage centrally. I'm fine with states setting up their programs however they see fit. It's no surprise however that the ones that are in deep, deep debt have the largest safety nets and almost zero economic growth.

Why? GMs shouldn't be allowed to do their jobs just because 4 teams are still playing? If anything the GMs of the team not still in should be working more during this time of their off-season.

Maybe from an organizational pov but the US is so wealthy that if you redirected a fraction of foreign "investment" into your own country you could easily afford to organize a system that not only looks after people but employs a ton of people too. And taxes wouldn't have to increase too much if the right people (business') are taxed.
Whatever! Hockey! Pens! Games 7!

I'm not eating until the Pens have a 3 goal lead. I expect that to be around 8:30pm.

Pens blow them out as Vasy implodes. Crosby gets the game winner, 5-1 Pens.

Absolutely from an organizational standpoint. There is so much government waste when it comes to expenditure that id be really curious to see what all this country could do if they streamlined military and domestic program expenditure and cut the fat on both sides. But from an organizational standpoint, the 50 States are too much to manage efficiently. That's why there's currently so much fat in government expenditure because the bureaucracy needed to run everything from a central planning system is way too much. This is why everyone loves to point to small European countries such as the Scandinavian states and be like "it works phenomenally over there it's time to get out of the Stone Age and join them". Their population is small and mostly homozygous, making it extremely easy to manage.

Not against socialism in theory, but who cares Ike be if you're a decent human being. It's just a very bad fit for this particular country due to sheir size and the heterozygous nature of our population. What's good for one region of the States won't be good for another and forcing government programs on those who don't want/need it just because the majority of citizens living in an area primarily populated by a certain demographic (urban populations) want/need it is tyrany of the majority.

Anyways, feel free to ignore. Just trying to keep my mind of overthinking the game tonight

yeah but the problem is that buy pushing this they are buying votes. By doing so if it passes it drives out business and people who already have employer based HC. It drives in people that that want a more social form of govt. CO has a great economy and low unemployment, but long term this could kill the state.

Definitely not gonna be cooking anything tonight that's for sure. I'll probably end up picking up a pizza or some wings. Something that I can snack on throughout the game.

Not buffalo chicken dip though. Made a batch Sunday night and used trinidad moruga scorpion hot sauce. Safe to say I poop my brains out the next day.
