sure.

if your backup goalie goes on another once in a lifetime heater, 99 points seems completely achievable.

Do you honestly think it was all just him ??That 20 game run was probably the healthiest we have seen this team in 4 years .

While also a declining commodity I think Thomas Vanek will garner more interest if bought out by the Wild than Staal. He's still more of a pure scorer than Eric and maybe has less health concerns

I think the point is that teams should know when to rebuild and when to add help. The Canucks should be rebuilding at all costs. Not going for patchwork fixes to compete now.

it's a boom/bust strategy. leafs will either have an Edmonton bust or move towards being an actual contender.

both vancouver and ottawa have chosen the path to perpetual mediocrity; led by meddling owners.

9th-12th places finishes and the occasional 1 and out in the playoffs is what is in store.

They arent trading away the cream of their youth come on now, they are using their old core to support the growth and development of their next one .The leafs couldnt do this because they had no core ,after the lockout and the cap was implemented.

Nothing wrong with how Van is going about their building their team, and its not like they cant do the total rebuild later .But iam sure the would rather not have to finish in the basement for half a decade

If watched carefully ,you could see Ottawa has totally turned over their roster with younger players .We are still one of the youngest teams in the league with more prospects coming ,we obviously arent there yet .But we are getting closer

9th youngest team in the NHL heading in to next season based on the guys currently under contract, about a year and a half, on average, younger than the oldest team. You aren't THAT young.

You need to look deeper bud .Most of the team in the top 9 are first or second year players .And are still in their 20,s most of whom are 25 or younger. The vets we do have are there to support this ,like i have said we arent there yet .But we do have a pretty good top9 up front. When healthy ,with a somewhat solid top 4 ,and a decent goalie .Add some solid looking prospects like White ,Chabot,Perron and whomever we draft at 12th .

And its not as bleak as some are claiming here

Being young doesn't make you good. It makes you average in today's nhl and the Sens are the epitome of average. Especially when said youth doesn't hold elite potential. The Sabres? Now that's a Yong team on the rise with top end potential.

Bleak ...no.

Average. Yes. Meh. Yes. Mediocre. Yes. 9th or 10th place. Yes.

Bleak. No.

I think staal has more value. Both are declining but staal at least bring some leadership and a respectable work ethic. I wouldn't want either on my team but if I had to pick one I'd take staal.

Meh ,this team is better than a 9th place team but whatever .Not going to bother arguing ,with a leaf fan that has his mind made up.

Until they prove it on the ice no they're not. Sens fans before this past season expects playoffs and a playoff round win. Never happened. Why? Because they're a 9th place team. And when they're not they're a 10th place team. Or 11th.
