Gudbranson is not a bottom pairing defenseman. - MJL
I think he is a pretty solid dman. At only 24. He is big and plays a mean game. Not a terrible skater at all.
To me he plays a way everyone seems to want from Morin. |

He's a dreamier, less-talented/better-skating Luke Schenn.

He's a solid young defenseman.

They were completely outclassed against washington... We'll see i hope the guy works out. But again another position given due to familiarity... This has to be the last dance of the good ol' boy club if they don't get it done in another 4-5 years. - JoeRussomanno
That might be your stupidest post yet. There were a bunch of other guys Hextall was more familiar with from playing and working with them on his various NHL teams. Jon Stevens, for example. |

I feel like the less risky move for Vancouver was to keep McCann and the picks, and sign Luke Schenn. |

I do find it hilarious that Florida has a front office makeover to get more analytics savvy, and the FIRST thing they do is call up Jim Benning to fleece him in a trade.
Arizona's new GM probably is pissed that he gets second dibs on Benning. - Mononoke

Coots absolutely could've played on that team. There were guys like carcillo, asham, powe, etc. Guys like coots as i said, even schenn/raffl, i think couldve played on that team for sure.
And the defensive third pairing was absolutely a mess. Lucas Krajicek and Bartulis were absolutely terrible. They make Manning and Gudas look like Pronger and Macinnis - sjk540
No, Coots couldn't have played on the 2010 team. Who would he have replaced? Simply replacing Asham with Coots is a silly mindset considering both play very different roles. Coots would have to replace someone like Mike Richards within his role and guess what, Richards was better. I wouldn't even replace Coots with Betts because we had the best 4th line that season and in my opinion Betts was a better faceoff man and a better skater.
Is Coots a defenseman? |

If Travis Yost was such a hockey genius, he'd be running an NHL team rather than writing a stats blog for TSN.

Gudbranson isn't terrible, he's just totally not worth McCann, 33rd-overall, and 93rd-overall.
Benning was on the radio comparing the price he had to pay to the Dougie Hamilton trade... lol |

With Chris Phillips retiring, Hexy should be all over it talking up Streit to the Sens as a veteran plug to help out. Do it for whatever he can get. |

That depends on how well McCann develops, and what happens with the picks. It's not a bad deal either way, but defenseman are at a premium.

There is a chance he wouldnt want to go there, but I like the idea...especially with defensemen prices being what they are right now
however...senators did go an entire season without chris phillips |

It is stupid to give up those kind of assets for someone who will never generate offense. This kind of trade is how teams end up watching guys like Ryan McDonagh and Kevin Shattenkirk play for someone else their entire careers |
