That is stupid. All that matters to the Panthers is coming out of the draft with good players. You try to hit on every pick, but history shows that you never do. The Panthers chances of getting good players just went up by a good amount and it does not matter at all to them which pick turns out great. They don't need to hit on the pick that came from Vancouver to "win a trade."

Florida saw a lot of value they could get from a player they clearly did not need around amymore.

You're talking about something completely different, which I think is stupid to interject into the conversation of if it was a good trade or not. I don't see how existing picks that Florida already owned, and was not a part of the trade, somehow factor into the outcome of the trade. Whether they hit or not on a pick they received in the trade, is certainly a factor in measuring the outcome of the trade, ultimately.

No, because the trade was made yesterday without knowing what players will be selected with the draft choices they received....so did they get good value for him? Yes, so it was a good trade. Hindsight makes it easier to say if they should've made the trade or not, but it does not change whether or not the value was there.

To put it incredibly simple, If you and another person are offered either 4 lottery tickets or 6 lottery tickets, you pick first and select the 6 lottery tickets. You end up with 6 losers and the other person gets 2 winners. Did you make the wrong choice? No, you'd pick the 6 tickets every time

That's a very poor analogy. In drafting a player, you're picking an asset that you have spent time scouting and evaluating as a player. In your analogy, you're just picking a random ticket.

There is no way you can state that if Florida selects two players with the draft picks gained, that turn out to be very good players, history will judge the deal as a better deal than if the player they pick flop. Of course we have no way of knowing that now, so the value of the picks is what it is, at this time. That value can rise or fall, depending on what happens.
