It's hard, because they don't need much. But what they need...I don't know.
That is a tough nut to crack. I read that they might be talking about Nash for Shattenkirk, but I don't know

To me McCann looks to be a solid 3rd line center. I almost feel like the deal would be like the Flyers moving Laughton, a 2nd and 4th for Gudbranson and a 5th.
I think both teams got things they wanted. Also Gudbranson is only 24. Still plenty of time for him. - J35Bacher

I disagree. Ultimately, how the assets you got turn out, is far more relevant to the outcome of a trade. Obviously that isn't known right now, so all we can look at is the perceived value of an asset, in assessing a trade right now, but that should not be done with finality to it. Also have to look at the overall team effect a deal has. Many aspects to looking at a trade. - MJL
The draft is about trying to maximize chances of getting good players. Florida had 4 picks in the draft. Now they have 6. If they hit on one of them is that a good draft? If they hit on every pick except the ones from Vancouver...is it a bad trade?
Just like Umberger/Hartnell trade...it is made at one point in time and the value is assessed at that time...not after 2 years of seeing how bad Umberger is |

I think he was being talked about as the captain to replace Mitchell.
If I am flroida I would have been trying to get Virtanen over McCann. Not sure they need another center. But the 2nd rounder will be high pick. |

It would be cheaper for them to trade a guy like Higgins for MacDonald. |

It's also fair to say that there is risk there for Florida also - MJL

I wonder if you could do something like MacDonald for Jack Johnson. I have seen his name floated as someone who could be moved.
I would not be against another deal built like the Umberger/Harntell trade even though I know it didn't work in the Flyers immediate but understand the future of the deal. |

Hitting on draft picks that weren't included in the trade has zero bearing on the outcome of the trade. How McCann, Gudbranson, and the draft picks included in the deal turn out, will ultimately decide how the trade will be judged. |

Pavelski 22 pts in 18 games...just laying it all out there to get his boys to the promised land...
Sid...just under a point a game..making that hall of fame play on pure heart alone scoring the game winning goal forcing a game 7..
THIS is why this is the greatest game on earth.... |

Doesn't eliminate the risk. Gudbranson could thrive in Vancouver, and McCann and the picks could not work out for Florida. That is a potential risk. |

That is stupid. All that matters to the Panthers is coming out of the draft with good players. You try to hit on every pick, but history shows that you never do. The Panthers chances of getting good players just went up by a good amount and it does not matter at all to them which pick turns out great. They don't need to hit on the pick that came from Vancouver to "win a trade."
Florida saw a lot of value they could get from a player they clearly did not need around amymore. |

Whatever you think. everyone sees that trade differently.
I am saying I wouldn't be against looking for another deal where I get shorter term back if it meant I could move MacDonald. |

Are there still people that think Hartnell gets us to the dance last year and passed WAS this year?
Must be the same people that think Steely Dan is awesome and Toto sucks. |
