So you believe it is more difficult for a linesman to determine (using the vertical axis) if a player crossed before the puck vs the current rules making lineman have to determine if a player's skate was on the ice before he crossed the blue line vs when the puck does?

Absolutely do. When it has to be on the ice, its right next to the line. If there is white between the puck/skate they are beyond the line, that call can be made from the neutral zone, on the line and even within the zone depending on certain angles.
In the air, the linesman has to be right on the line itself and unobstructed, otherwise the change of angle will alter their call
