How CAN YOU be happy with this signing? Committing another 4 years to a 29 year old players whose ceiling is as a #6 defensemen on an average team. WHY THE (frank) IS THIS A PRIORITY SIGNING? I'd happily give Loui what he's asking for if it meant letting Kevan walk. And we don't give Dougie what he wants but we commit his exact same cap hit to quaider and kevan. This stuff just infuriates me.

How are we supposed to implement any youth into the backend with deals like this? When will the likes of Carlo, Lauzon, Zboril, Gryzlecyk, O'gara and even older prospects like Cross and Casto ever get their shot on this team? Not to mention Trotman, C.miller and JoMo being forced into the press box. It just makes absolutely no sense from a team building perspective.

The Bruins offered what Dougie ended up signing for in Calgary and he declined. He wanted to leave.

Kind of like Drouin wanted to leave, demanded to be traded, refused to play for the ahl team, was suspended and now is a stud for the Lightning in the playoffs?

Or how E. Kane wanted to be traded? Ended up getting Pegg Myers.

What about Johansson refusing to sign a bridge contract and sat out for a dozen games for Columbus, then put in the doghouse this season? Ended up getting the jackets Seth jones.

Believe me, I understand the argument for telling Dougie to "(frank) off you little tool" but sometimes managers and executives need to manage there employees and talent don't they? That's why being a manager and boss isn't easy.

At the end of the day Dougie is gone and whether he wanted to play here or not we should have told him to screw off because he is playing here no matter what. The next best thing was the first, second and third round picks from the oilers or flames this season, which would be a top 10 if not better right now.

Wasn't handled properly, that is kind of obvious at this point.

Chara 2 yrs left under contract at 40 yrs old.
Seidenberg 2 yrs left under contract at 35 yrs old.
McQuaid 3 yrs left under contract 30 yrs old.
K. Miller 4 yrs left under contract 29 yrs old.
Krug will be signed for around $5 per most likely, who the hell knows about the term.

Now,
A - Presently we have ONE defensibe roster spot open for a kid. (We have dozens of them.)
B - With Miller and McQuaid just signed within the year, logic would probably dictate that Seidenberg or Chara would be moved to make room for an upgrade.

So,
Yandle or Shattenkick replaces Seidenberg (most likely upgrade presently)

Shatty/Yandle - K. Miller
Chara - C. Miller
Krug - McQuaid

I think that would be better than last season, but I truly think that it would be a middle of the pack 15th out of 30 teams in GA.

FYI. Shatty is a right shot and Yandle is a left. Wondering if this signing means they make a hard run at Yandle since he is a free agent. My $ would be on Donny signing Yandle for big money, $6+ per. Lefty-righty down the lineup.

EDIT: being super optimistic that could be a good defense if everyone plays to there ceilings. Nothing like when we won the cup or the kings cup teams, but possibly a top 10 defense in the NHL...........

Hope we just sign Stams for $10 per for 6 years. Screw it at this point. We would be unstoppable upfront with our centers and the possibility of the prospects and possibly guys like Vesey.

Do it.

I know. That's the point! They are going to the finals to be destroyed by the Sharks, but at least we could get there with there model.

Honestley I was just about to post that I thought we could duplicate the Pens after watching them win tonight.

They carried the game and they carried most of the series.

Still think we need a couple top four guys, but I could see Krug as our Letang lite.

EDIT: the NHL has seemed to pass the slower "foot speed" guy like Seidenberg and Chara.

That's what also scares me about Miller and Quaider. It's like every team needs a bunch of offensive defenseman.

The defensive part of there game seems like a bonus at this point.

Mehhhhhhh I don't know about that... I think it will be a good series, but I'm sticking with the Penguins... Matt Murray looks like the better goalie of the two, and that Penguins offense is still chugging along. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go either way, but I think if there's going to be a blow out, it might be in the other direction. We shall see!

I think it's important not to get too caught up in trying to copy someone else's formula though... Yes it's working for the Pens right now... but that doesn't mean it's what the Bruins need to become next year to be successful.

The Sharks were basically the Bruins of the West this year... terrible at home... great on the road... just made the playoffs (we're missing that part), and now they're in the finals. It could have been the same for the Bruins if they were able to squeak in.

That being said... they've choked on their own Richards and stumbled their way out of the playoffs at the very end of the season for two years in a row... so what's going to change? Bringing back 5 of the same 6 d-men from last year... Loui and Stempniak are likely the only pieces on offense that will change... so we're just going to do it all over again? Stick to their guns and hope this group figures it out? Just seems pretty foolish to change nothing after two years of failure.

What do we think of Boston's top pick this year? I see the mock draft has them drafting McAvoy. I don't know much about juniors, but I like the Fabbro guy. 67 points in 45 games as a D in the WHL sounds good to me. And is going to Boston college next year. Sounds like a puck moving D to me.

Honestly I could see them taking either of those two. Or being as though Neely wants to get "heavier" on the right side, they could take someone like julien gauthier
