Nope.

We can't trade for Stamkos' rights and then sign him to 8 - he had to be on our 2016 roster.

- Atomic Wedgie

still, the idea of opening a couple roster spots up by sending 'prospects' to TB holds.

I'm looking at you, Sam Carrick.

I can't give an opinion on this until spatzo comes here and tells us what it should be.

Even if the Marlies were an option, I don't think Marner should go there.

I was pissy thinking he couldn't be in the AHL because of the rules but then when I was watching the Devils vs Marlies series...I changed my mind.

There are 30 year old men in the AHL. Men who aren't making the NHL. Men who start to run other players when they lose and don't give a poop because they're never making the NHL. It is a dirtier league IMO.

I am actually starting to think it is safer in the NHL for Marner because he has the talent, there is definitely less goonery, more structure and less guys like Torres and Avery now.

very true, still depending on the team they put together next year - I think they can compete for a wildcard - many will think its wishful, he can fit in. If this is another lottery pick team - is there any benefit for marner? Leafs ruined lots of defensemen bringing them up as soon as possible.

That is why the draft will be so interesting. Lots of picks, extras in the minor - trading chips. Guys like Percy will not make the Leafs, he must be moved - not great value but to some teams worth a shot. I like the chances of moving up at the draft on the second first rounder. We can unload quantity to get quality.

If they are a lottery pick team next season it could make more sense to have him play in a no stress environment but at the same time learn Babcock's system. Go to the WJCs, come back and play some more.

Really tough call. OHL just doesn't seem like a good place for him, might be worse than staying on the big club.

With a potential top 9 of:

JVR, Stamkos, Marner
Brown, Matthews, Nylander
Sosh/Vesey/Hyman, Kadri, Komarov

Top 4 of:

Reilly, NEW #2RD
Gardiner, Zaitsev

and a new #1G and Babcock coaching....

...this team could very well surprise!

Leafs ruined a lot of defense men cause they haven't had a coach since Pat Quinn.

29 year old journeyman who topped out at 12 points. Spatso can start planning the parade.

I'll summarize:

Leafs can/will easily cut the bullpoop from their 50 man roster if/when needed.

The end.

I agree, think they will surprise and I would rather Marner play a bit for Team Canada than play junior or be a healthy scratch in Toronto.

That's the solution!

Trade 10 pieces of fluff to Edmonton for #4

Wouldn't that sound awesome when it's announced at the draft

Loved Quinn and Burns, I think that Babcock is even better. Thinking that rushing the defensemen out of junior as a practice in the past 20 or 30 years led to impatience and some good defensemen were either ruined or shipped out. It's also not always up to the coach. Case-Point Gardiner - high skill level, low brain power - how you supposed to fix that?

Good article but no way they resign PAP. This team has enough middle roster veterans.

Babcock seemed to do something for him, his year was far from terrible playing on a last place team.
