I'm fine with him as a secondary guy, but not JT's wing. - ses111
He's fine as a player, but he's a bit injury prone. |

He would not be the top target that is for sure. |

From reading Staple's responses on twitter it sounds like Martin is gone - Vukota
Didn't see Tweet replies but in the article, he wrote, "With the likely departures of KO & MM..."
Telling? Prediction? Gut feeling? I don't know.
THere's also a short list of impact UFA's. Realistically, Stamkos is 95%+ NOT likely to sign with Isles. That leaves Ladd & Lucic as the two best solutions to upgrade to the offense. Can imagine more than a few teams will be making offers. Here's where having a no-name coach comes back to bite you on the ass. If anyone has ever heard Cappy speak, they may be turned off to his less-than-impressive post game pressers. |

It's going to be ugly if the Isles miss out on one of the top FA's should they get to FA. The spotlight will really shine on Garth and Cappy. |

Someone is going to pay Martin a ton of money, I would say he's as good as gone. I'm honestly fine with not paying him $3M+. Some idiot GM will. I'd rather have another winger that can actually play hockey AND physical in that spot. Having "the best fourth line in the league" is cool and all...but I'd rather have Tavares and Stamkos. |

I have a feeling Martin gets 2.5 from somebody else and the isles won't match it |

I tried leaving a comment to mock him but it asked me to verify my email and that's just way too much work for me. - eichiefs9
Well he deserves it especially because we don't need another temp winger for jt. 5% chance of us getting stamkos but staple and friedman have talked about it so at least there's a chance |

lucic wants to stay in LA, would be surprised if they don't find a way to sign him.

I honestly wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to see him get over $3M. He'll be wanted by a bunch of GM's and it's only going to drive his price up.
I'll be the first one to say it:
Matt Martin will be a Ranger next year. Sydney has family ties in the area, the Rangers are going to want to upgrade their fourth line with the departures of Moore and probably Stalberg. He'll probably take slightly less to stay in the area than he would get going elsewhere, but it'll be more than the Isles want to (and should) pay him. |

He wants to be there but they're going to be hard pressed to find a way to keep him. Brown has a NTC. Carter can be moved, but is making $5.2M+ until 2022 and is already 31. Vinny is retiring. I highly doubt they'll move Toffoli or Pearson, even if they did it's not a big savings. They could move Muzzin or Martinez, but their defense is already pretty thin outside of those two and Doughty.
They're going to have a real tough time. |

I’m okay with that. While I like martin, there will be a number of nhl players who will struggle to find a contract later this summer (much like last summer) and ideally we can find someone who can skate, will throw the body and who can kill penalties in a pinch. I’m not looking for a clone of martin, but finding someone with the hustle and effort of a cizikas without the hands would still be fine by me and likely cost under 1 mil cap hit.
These are the hard choices you have to make under a salary cap – signing martin for 2.5-3 mil per is way too much for what he is as a player.

I'm ok with him leaving but I don't need to see him hit our guys everytime we play them. He could still take a slight discount with sidney and all his charities in the area although he can do the same with them. Dammit |

I agree on Martin and would not give him big money. 4th line is good and all, but they will not put the Isles over the top. I'll be much more upset if the Isles miss out on one of the top FA's. |

I wouldn't be surprised to see Halmo get a shot if/when Martin departs. He's a high-energy, scrappy guy that'll drop the gloves when needed. He's not huge, but he's more in the mold of a Cizikas-type player. Could see Bracken Kearns getting a shot to earn that spot too. |
