Yeah hes a (frank)ing animal...

Great skater...

But for some reason some moronic Leafs fans don't think he's a top pairing D... Rielly should be considered for the next Olympic squad. They'll need his skating.. Smart with zone entries.. Everyone made such a big deal about Ellis waiting for the line change before advancing the puck.. whoopie -do

- Arctic_AARDVARK

That whole salivating over Ellis and the line change thing was cringe worthy. You see that exact same thing about a dozen times in each and every hockey game played.

He was named one of Canada's 3 top players and their top Dman. Assuming that was by the coach's

I think Laine will be the better player, but you guys need Matthews way more.

The better player? Matthews is better in every aspect of the game, except Laine has a slightly better shot. Matthews is also a much better skater.

Wow. It didn't take long for Laine to become so overrated. He scored one more goal, and had three more points, while playing on a far superior team. Laine also out scored McDavid, so I guess Laine is better than him, too.

People will do anything to try to discredit [future] Leafs players...

It has nothing to do with the Leafs. Laine looked like a better player to me. They're both gonna be good but I give a slight edge to Laine. Matthews is the right player to draft though because you guys need him more. Wow you guys sure get butthurt in here quick.

Four pages deep into comments and nobody has yet mentioned who was named MVP of the entire tournament. You see, it is really not fair to mess around with the story line while it is still being written. Never mind Taylor/Tyler, Matthews is clearly the best player in the draft. Any discussion otherwise ruins the parade and will not be tolerated.

I understand that Matthews could still be your #1 overall pick despite the dominate play of Laine in the World and Finnish championship play. But, I do not understand why everyone is so easily enraged by the idea that the big goal scorer may be a very special player.

This isn't a thing. You've made this up. No one has said anything remotely close to that.

The 200 ft centre with elite skating, hands, hockey sense and shot is the pick. Nothing happened in this tournament to dissuade that. If anything it reinforced it even more.

Laine was more dangerous on the PP, but Auston Matthews looked like the better player all around and its not even close. Laine is a pure sniper but he needs a lot of work on his 200 ft game (who needs defense when you can snipe right?)
Matthews looked like a future selke winner. amazing to see an 18 year old that dedidicated to getting back and breaking up plays.

Laine had 0 pts vs Canada x 2 and US. keep that in mind. nice to pile up 3pt games against inferior competition with no NHL players though

might wanna exit this thread. leafs fans are gonna take as kindly to saying Laine>Matthews as an oilers fan would to garth saying Eichel>Mcdavid

What are the plans with Leivo ? Has he been passed on the depth chart ? is he an NHL player and if so could he be had for relatively cheap as a low risk medium reward type player lol Always liked how he played in the very few stints I ever caught and has a bit of size.

I like leivo as well. He's got a really good shot and decent size. Always battling along the boards.

I think he may be passed on the depth charts though. I don't think he's waiver exempt any longer and will probably be traded.

I watched every game closely since I was on the fence about Mathews or Laine. After all said and done. Mathews by a long frickin margin. Leafs just got rid of a winger that has a booming shot but nothing more. Mathews is out there doing everything. Reminds me so much of Kopitar. So in my eyes it's pick another Kessel or pick up a shiny new Kopitar. No brainier to me IMO.

yes they will... just look at everyone of the Buffalo bloggers articles - always an ANTI Leaf twist.

posts from Canuck fans, Sens fans you name... always a negative spin on anything in Toronto.

someone from (I believe a Chicago fan) posted that Kessel sucked while he was a Leaf and now he's soooooooo much better having left the Leafs. He/She was 100% correct - every Leaf players is derided and criticized far more than they should be just by joining the Leafs.

I'm just going off of everything that I've read and listened to from analysts and scouting rankings that have him as the best prospect, and the fact that he's a centre, and teams need good centres. I feel like a lot of non-Leaf fans are aware of this, but talk up Laine just to be contrarian. But I'm not enraged, it causes my enjoyment from the lottery to become enhanced.
