Look I understand that Leaf fans have great fun talking trash in the spring and summer. Everybody cuts them lots of slack because the hurting starts pretty big and fast once we get into regular season. But this year things are a little over the top. Last month MacKenzie reported that Matthews was no longer a unanimous pick among scouts. Corey Pronman reported on ESPN that he has now officially moved Laine to the top of his draft selection list. Things may be a bit more complex than some Leaf fans want them to be.

They kept him out of the WHL to challenge plus it didn't hurt he was getting paid to play... I'm not worried at all about his age. In comparison to Eichel he has always outscored him at every level. I'm pretty excited about that

Yes the draft is huge for non playoff teams. But why are you more worried about our pick and not discussing your teams pick range?

Look, seriously, if you go back over the last 6 or 7 years I am not posting anymore about the draft this year than any other year. I, as I have often said, am not hostile to Matthews. He might to turn out to be the best pick. But it is not as clear cut as some make it out to be. The trend is clearly moving away from seeing Matthews as a unanimous pick. It merits discussion.
