So what if Laine looked like the better player. The Leafs will get a heck of a player, and the right player for their team. Quit being so damn butthurt and look at things a little more objectively. you don't win with contracts like Ryan and Phaneuf especially from a budget team. You get rid of them at all costs. Even if you don't get much. Ottawa was the victim in that deal.

Problem with Sens getting rid of contacts is that they are a true small market team. Owner is a tax dodging cheapskate who makes Ballard look competent. Ottawa will not play meaningful hockey in the next decade despite having a true premier defenseman.

I don't think he even looked that much of at all better.. he got a couple more points that's about it.. Everything I seen from Mathews made me even more excited about him then I ever was, not worried they would take the wrong guy. Mathews was great on a pretty poor team.

Matthews led a weaker team, played a premium position and when they went head to head to head he was the better player.
