maybe not carried, but certainly filled that role. Like a substitute teacher that never leaves, the job got done, and it was the top line in the league for a couple seasons.

we often look for the ideal, and overlook what is actually working.

Like Nashville and The Blues.

Even now with Stamkos out Bolts are having success.

Nashville acknowledged the fact their team lacked a true 1C and acquired Ryan Johansen. Sorted.

stones?

Did you mean Nashville? and not Columbus?

You need the pieces to make the deal, and depth in one area makes it easier to move one of those pieces.

Treliving and Chia pet in my opinion are better negotiators than JB is.

was just thinking if Matthews wasn't in this draft, Laine would be the #1 pick.

how much do you have to throw at a team to get that #1?

It could be worth it but sets the rebuild back at least a year, but increases the future potential of success. I don't think JB has the time.

- hillbillydeluxe

Would it set it back? How many times have people on here debated if Bo is a 1, 2 or 3? . Laine looks like a true number one.

Laine looks like he is going to get a lot of goals in his career

From last thread

Now the hockey world thinks Phil is a good player.

Hasn't always been the case you know

- walshyleafsfan

Perhaps Toronto just sucked that badly and his level of caring went down significantly. That seems more logical. He is a beast for Pits

I think Laine would have a better career overall. I don't think it would take him as long as hank/dank to get started at proving his worth. Especially playing on a line with the Sedins. If we were to trade for #2, I would personally consider Boeser instead of Bo Being sent. X-Bo-Laine would look good, like Chi we can get that top line LW via UFA or trade for it later when we have the assets.

Different potential ceilings for sure, Bo could be good/great, Laine could be elite.

JB has to talk to the Jets, but I don't think you move a player like that if you are Winnipeg.

It is hypothetical but JB was in on trying to get the first overall on his first draft.

Probably the two best shooters in the NHL right now. Stamkos and ovi. Cups between them 0.

yeah, you have to try, have to at least inquire.

I remember DT acting like the most desirable girl at the prom when he talked about entertaining offers for the first that turned into Ekblad.

FA should want elite talent to sell tickets and fill the seats...

I think if we were to package some of our best young talent to move up into the top 2 then it would only make sense to do it for Mathews. This doesnt mean I think Mathews is so much more than Laine... just that we would have to create a much bigger hole at C then we already have in the post Henrik era. No Hank, no Bo... -probably no first round pick next year to target a C.

It makes no sense to do this for a winger. Laine is going to be a beast but this team would be weaker going forward... too weak down the middle. Best to keep our centers and add bonified top 6 wingers through the draft this season.

Would Detroit be stuck with a 7.5mil cap hit next season if he didn't retire? Is this even possible?

Another trade that could be looked at is to CBJ.

Hartnell 3 Rd overall for

Fifth overall , Sven , their second round pick , and Gaunce

Puljujarvi is said to be the more NHL ready and has a very good 200 foot game

What would you consider 'elite' - I would still put Hank and possibly Daniel in there as well. If you aren't considered 'elite' when you are consistently in the top 20 scoring then I don't know what elite means
