You honestly think that you have 3 of the top 20 defensemen in the league on your team? Wow is that ever a homer comment. There are some seriously good players in this league. Take off the Flames goggles dum dum. They are good players but guve me a (frank)ing break!

3 of the top 22 D in the league...yes, points wise.

Great! Not exactly how you define the best defender.

Now Jero, I know you are enjoying yourself but honestly, are you trying to tell me that if Oilers had Hamilton he wouldn't be on your top pairing? I think you could probably list about 15 teams that if they were to acquire Hamilton he would be top power play unit & top pairing & play at least 20 minutes a game. That would put him in the top 30. He's big, he's RH & he's only 22. That my fine Oiler friend is a valuable asset.
I expect him to be much better next year & if not, I will cringe every time you come on our thread

Actually, that seems to the exact criteria for winning the Norris!

Not trying to be a wiener here but being slotted in as the Oil first line RHD is not a major feat by any means.

Yeah but its mainly Oiler fans that are making a point of saying he isn't a top D

Somebody better tell the professional hockey writers association that!

But seriously if you guys can't even concede that Dougie should be in the conversation as at least a top 30 dman in the league then you guys are just being douche turds.

Exactly what I was thinking! What about Tukka Rask if became available would you be willing to part with our 6th for him?
- Yeah...Baby

6th rounder? Sure

Fleury didn't get shelled, but he didn't play great either. Maybe a game 7 loss would piss people off enough to run him out of town though

I'm not interested in trading a #6 overall for a goalie. Not when there are many other options out there. Rask is also paid $7.5mil per I believe. JMO. I would trade down and add another piece, though.

Yeah, WC's over.. Here's hoping they give the new Coach a good amount of input regarding what goalie they get..

Soo ideally would get it done before UFA day. Even more ideal would be prior to the draft.

Actually a pretty tough decision to make on the goaltending. I am thinking Fleury will definitely be in play as will Bishop.

Not sure any team is going to want to pay up many assets for those guys, so I imagine they will be had for relatively cheap.

One of the top 30 D? He's not even as Good as Klefbom or Sekeras yet ( tho he likely would be). He would be on our top pair only because those two are lefty a.

He would be a No 1 on Vancouver, maybe Dallas, and that's about it. Calling him a top 30 D man is like calling Jonas Brodin , Oscar Klefbom or Tyson Barrie top 30 D men. They are all great but unfortunately , not top 30.

You need to give other players credit. Vlasic, Burns, Doughty, Giordano, Brodie, Boumeester, Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Keith, Seabrooke, Suter, Weber, Josi, Buff, Karlsson, Carlson, Subban, Markov, Chara, McDonough, Niskanen, Boychuck, E Johnson, Hamonic, Letang, Hedman, Anton Stralman, Faulk,Kronwall, OEL are probably the 30 best D Men in the League. You can make arguments than some of the older guys don't belong there, but why would Dougie slide in before Spurgeon, Brodin, Ellis, Vatanen, Ekholm, Sekeras, Klefbom, Leddy, Barrie, J Johnson, Bogosian, Trouba, Dumba, Campbell, Ekblad, and a host of others?

Jesus H Christ...he's a top 3 Defensman on any team in the league, be happy with that and quit over rating your players and elevating them to a status they haven't earned.

This being the same fan base that refuses to acknowledge Taylor Hall among the NHL elite in his position , yet Dougie Hamilton is a TOP 30 D-Man????

Well I guess with your elite defence you don't really need elite goaltending, huh?

So you don't think he's even in the conversation with these guys? I guess that's where we disagree because he absolutely belongs in that grouping, everyone one of those players isn't miles ahead of Dougie and an argument could be made that he's better than some, just like an argument can be made that some in that top 30 list don't belong.

No, he certainly belongs in the conversation with those others, no doubt, but some of you guys are already putting him ahead of ALL those guys and in among the elite . He simply isn't there yet, tho his future is bright.

I was just making the case that an argument could be made for him to be in the top 30. I don't think he's a slam dunk by any means. I do think he has the potential to one day be in the top 10 conversation but you are right, he's not there yet.

Top 60 he's a slam dunk. Top 30 makes him a number 1 or 2 on just about every team in the league.

Better than Hamilton?

I can counter with 2: Klefbom and Sekeras.
