Huh? He was a fringe player that never transitioned his Jr skills into anything but the "tough guy" role.
If he stays clean, he'll be an ok 4th line guy. Bollig, Ott et al. Good on the Oilers for believing in him...

- geta02it

He plays the pest role well and gets under peoples skin and sticks up for his teammates. He has decent hands and speed. Perfect bottom 6 forward for us

Not disagreeing with you there but even when he was with the Nucks, he never came across in the same ilk as a Marchand, Ott. He was old school goonery with a slight bit of offensive upside.

Hopefully the Oil and his team mates keep him focused on his career and not the crap that got him banished.

Well of course he's not either of those guys. Ott is a defensive guy and Marchand is a goal scorer. But Kassian plays his role well and has a cheap contract.

he cooled off after an impressive first month or so. But he still brought physicality and agitation. To s team that needed both.
Essentially he can still be usefull even when he's not making anything happen offensively

Low risk- high potential reward

Good signing

From what I was seeing he runs around alot. Not in an effective way. He was caught out of position too often trying to be physical.

Maybe a full year and a training camp to fully earn the systems will help.

I would not be surprised if it didn't though.

Too many of these Low Risk- High Reward don't pan out for the Oil.

Meh signing.

So with what Deboer has done with the Sharks, does everyone still think Todd Maclellan is the greatest coach in the world, or was he the problem there?
- Ihatebrianburke

Neither and I don't recall anyone stating that either. And anyone who suggests he's the problem here needs to seriously go and get (frank)ed.

I don't think he's the problem here, but I also don't think he's the greatest coach in the world as some do. He's never had a crappy roster like he had last season. He was an assistant with Detroit when they had some of the most stacked teams I've ever seen, and a head coach with San Jose with a pretty stacked roster year after year, that could never put it together in the playoffs. Then Deboer goes there and they put it together in the playoffs. Can't help but notice.

Kassian at 1.5 million for one year is totally fine, he gets paid like a 4th liner with the potential to play higher in the lineup. He did fine last year and took the focus off of the skilled guys.

You give Deboer too much credit... the Sharks finally realized that they needed to add some speed into their lineup and couple in the fact that teams like Anaheim, L.A. and Chicago aren't the juggernauts they use to be.

He's two wins away from being 6-1 all time in playoff series. Gotta give him some credit.

Henrique, Zajac, Kovy, Parise, Clarkson (when he could still hockey), Greene, Salvador, Larsson, Brodeur.

It was a good team, maybe they overacheived a little, but they had some talent.

He did meh.

He was the most penalized player on the team while he was here, many undisciplined, reactionary penalties. He cannot play that kind of game, where he only plays 12 minutes and has the team on the PK at least once a game. He needs to be more functional.

Right now, and for a long time, I only see him as Ben Eager v2. If he doesn't reinvent his game as the coaching staff hope, and believes, he can then he will be out of the league in a few years.
