On Scultz 2-2.5 would be great. Personal opinion is 2.5-3 on a 2 year deal.
I wander if management would see his talent and decide they can develop as a 2nd pairing guy. Would they ever consider going term now. 6 years. If they went that route I'd assume it would have to be in 3.5-4 range. 2 years from now if he replaces daley successfully he would be looking at Mike Greene or nisky money. Cap would be higher and at 27 would be hitting his prime. At the end of the day I think for both sides 2 years would make sense, but Rutherford should atleast think about locking him long term. |

Since Toronto is paying part of Kessel's salary, do they get a day with the Cup??? |

Lets get out of this series first before talking like that... then maybe if that happens after 3 wins in the next series, it might be ok...maybe |

Obviously that's condional on things... The thought of another team paying for someone else to win the cup was my point based on the conversations about cap. Not assuming anything. |

So I loaded up youtube and this video was staring me straight in the face... never realized Boyle was a softie. No wonder Crosby had no qualms about running him over on that faceoff in game 1.

Consider 6 years for Justin Schultz? Are you kidding? 1 year prove it deal. |

You don't do 6 year deals with Schultz. Make him prove it a bit more. Very small sample size we are dealing with. 18 regular season games and 5 playoff games isn't a good measure. Do a two or three year deal. |

Actually, this is hilarious. We have to win it first ... hell, we have to advance to have a chance to win it, but ... |

It's a horrendous deal for both sides. On our side the gamble is massive. Sample size is far too small to give a 6 year 4 mil contract. That could end up being an albatross that's completely immoveable. On Schultz's side the guy clearly has a ton of raw talent. It his reclamation is successful he could end up being worth more than 4 mil.
For us I think giving him a two year deal that expires the same offseason as Ian Cole's contract is the best move. That way we can reevaluate our blue line at that time and make decisions. |

Mostly agree that both sides would view 2 years as the best course of action. Just something I thought about on whether its worth gambling on. Reclamation project Schultz is about $6/year in 2 years if he becomes a puck moving solid 2nd defenseman. Skill is definitely there.

Bonino was good for a huge chunk of the season and look flat out bad at times.
I dont think anyone here predicted that Hagelin-Bonino-Kessel would be the top line ending the season and into the playoffs. Also nobody predicted that Wilson, Rust, Kuhnackl, Sheary would be actual good players to help out this roster. Those are huge steps this team made that nobody predicted. - sammy87
I know this was posted a long time ago but I had to respond because I completely disagree, I've been saying for 2-3 years now that the Pens system wasn't as barren as many claimed because we had a plethora of prospects coming from college and other areas that people were overlooking because they were still 2-3 years away from contributing and I was far from the only person touting the potential of players like Wilson(played very well at UMass-Lowell), Bryan Rust(nice but not great career at Notre Dame) and Kuhnkackl(injuries were the biggest thing slowing his progress) and the best part is that there are still more on the way with players like Blueger and Guentzel who will both be pushing for roster spot as soon as next season. None of this was really a surprise at all for anyone that actually follows college & junior hockey and truly follows the Pens prospects.
I don't think anyone could have predicted that HBK would be the Pens best line but again there were a segment of the fanbase that have been suggesting Kessel/Bonino as a 3rd combination since the 1st week of the season so again saying nobody saw these things coming is completely false, just because you didn't have a broad enough vision to see it all doesn't mean all of us didn't see this coming.

I was more referencing his production that didn't exactly progress at the rate many had hoped, he was a very solid players for the Irish but topping out at 17g-16a as a senior doesn't exactly scream NHL prospect. |

I dont think I've ever seen Kessel having this much fun. In interviews he looks so happy, joking around, all smiles. I never saw that in Toronto.
At the same time I dont think Ive seen the Pens having this much fun either, or at least not for half a decade. The playoffs were always a time of unbelievable pressure and expectation, this run they're all just having a blast. |

Yeah, it's a refreshing change and pretty remarkable. I guess we can attribute that to the coach finding a style of play that works for the talent assembled here. Don't know how far this team will go but I like our chances against anyone right now. |

In the past two days two articles have come out that have put Schultz and Crosby on the record saying Phil is hilarious and a great guy to have around the room for his laid back personality. Amazing what the media can get you to believe. It's nice to see that pretty much every acquisition feels blessed to be here. Daley, Kessel, and Schultz just love it here and I'm assuming Hagelin is too but he's too professional/serious to boast about it. |
