I hate when for every goal scoring player , there is something someone hates.. ex: not a 2 way player, doesn't forecheck, doesn't back check, doesn't do this , can't skate..etc etc...
If he can score goals . I don't care. we have other players to do the other things.

That's kind of my point. This team needs a game changer on the blueline. Yandle isnt that. Not to say he wouldnt make us better, but I dont think you win anything if he's your 2nd best d-man.
- Sabresfan-365

Gotta give to get a D man like you mentioned, a top 1 or 2. We can sign Yandle and add to what we have instead of moving a key piece, just puts us back in the same position as needing another winger compared to another D man.

That's what I tried arguing last year during the Kessel talk.

I don't want every player on the team to be great 2-way players - that won't score enough goals to win. It *might* prevent enough, but who knows. I know I want to have maybe 1 per forward line (top 2/3 lines, depending how many are built to score) have someone who is hyper-focused as a goal scorer and the other 4 can be there to pick up his slack on the defensive end.

Stamkos is more of an realistic option then Nash.

Here's a question

Trade for Kessel his cap hit is $6.8. Pittsburgh is in cap trouble. Prolly could get them to eat $1 million.

I'd rather do that then spend $11 million on Stamkos.

takes pressure off of risto

- homiedclown

If they really wanted to take the pressure of risto they'd pair him with a guy who is strong defensively since that's much tougher to handle anyways. Im fine with Yandle if they do what you suggested, bring in two d-men not just the one. But if he's your answer as a top pairing guy in a traditional d-core set up you're royally (frank)ed.

Grab Malkin instead, better chance at getting him IMO.

Id prefer not to move a roster player either but if you could package 8 and some prospects or non core roster players to land the #2 I think it would put us in a better position long term.

Kessel struggled his first few years. Vanek had the luxury of Briere and Drury.

Vanek was a ppg player once with Briere and Drury. Kessel did it on the Leafs...twice and fell 2 points short a third time.

- Stripes77

Kessel had some very good players on those Bruins teams as well. The first 2 years after Drury and Briere left Vanek scored 36 and 40 goals.

Because many have a blind hatred for Kessel....

....because he is fat.

- ImThatGuy

I developed a distaste for kessel last year when he absolutely mailed in the last half of the season in accordance with Maple Leaf policy. However, he seems to be engaged again and is proving to be one hell of a playoff performer. And he does put up really nice numbers.

I know I hate on kessel but he's still good but I would rather spend 11m on stamkos because I know he has the determination to be the best player ever and to show people that he's not declining and the number one thing he's younger
