the 29 yr old Russian center would be amazing or adding
Nielsen for 3 years

add a right handed top 4 D man and they'd be right there

- Marc D

I'd love to see the Flyers go for another Russian in Shipachev or Dadonov. But they're not good North American farm boys who eat grits for breakfast so idk. They may have cold feet after their last Russian free agent.

I might rearrange the top 6, but yeah, I like it. That 3C changes everything. Maybe keep Read up and Leier is in the bottom idk. But the dynamic of the team is much different and better with an upgrade at 3C rather than LW, I think. That's a deep lineup.
- Mononoke

Yeah, the top 6 and bottom 6 can be moved around since Schenn and Voracek play both sides. And Read probably deserves the 3RW spot ahead of Sceviour.

But Giroux-Couturier-Nielsen is the important thing.

That's a 100-point lineup, to me -- think a guy like Nielsen could help calm Laughton's game down

Read might look better at 8-10 tightly focused minutes and on the PK than 12-14 with extra shifts at ES

If Cousins can't hack it at 4C, you can still slide Bellemare over and you should have a few dollars to look around for a hockey trade in-season

Who do you match against? It's just awful for the other team. That's 3 elite two way centers, including 2 elite shutdown centers. It makes me laugh evilly just thinking about it.

Those suggested numbers for White are insanely high. He's not any more valuable to the team than Bellemare.

- Feanor

I agree, I like White, but I offer him an AAV of 1M, if he wants more, then an amicable parting is in order.

He's my boy...

I'm in diametric opposition to my former stance of bringing in up front help. I've embraced the anti-shiny-new-toy/growth-from-within movement.

I'm not even sure we should draft anyone this year.

- mayorofangrytown

LOL, need a brush up on the strategy. Drafting players is part of how you grow from within internally. Free agents and players on other teams, are the shiny new toys.

Absolutely; cardinal sin of coaches. Fall in love with fourth liners who are consistent, even when that consistency is getting pumped at ES, because they play hard
- AllInForFlyers

It's not a cardinal sin, the coach can only choose from the players on the roster, to insert in the lineup. If you don't like the choices, blame the GM. There were a lot of games where the 4th line was one of the most competitive lines. It was about more than playing hard.

Are you sure? Draft picks are the epitome of shiny and new.

Besides, I spent the last 12 hours setting up a breeding program for our players.

The context of the post was that our shiny new objects were not good enough, so we need to trade ours, for better shiny new objects.

If it's all the same to you -- really, if it's OK with you -- I'll blame the coach for player usage during games, but thanks for your input

I've analyzed the situation from afar and from an unbiased perspective. It is apparent that they need to fire everyone and trade everyone.

If they fire everyone then there will be no one else to trade...or is that part of the riddle?

That's fine, but I'll go with the coach, and his knowledge of the game, and how to handle an NHL bench, over a fan's input on how he handled the bench. No coach is infallible, and mistake free, but fan's tend to misread things, like the continued persecution of Jonathon Drouin last night, by TB's coach, when he led all TB forwards in ES ice time in the game, as an example. Overall, I think Hakstol did a fine job in directing the Flyers to a playoff berth, despite the injuries, and holes in the roster. He did like every coach does, he plays the players who are playing better in his eyes, more than some that he feels are not.

Any more than 3 years, 1.25 million, let him walk. You can't be overpaying 4th line players.

Did anyone catch the interview with Kessel after the game last night? I forget the reporters name but he asked Phil "How's your breath?" Phil says "it must be pretty bad". And the reporter starts laughing and says "No! I meant your conditioning..." Phil goes "Ohhhh..." and starts laughing too Everyone on the set was losing it. Phil's the best!
