Yeah. What bothered me earlier was the usual suspects rehashing the trade. Some fans were intelligent enough to know any deal sending Kessel away wouldn't return what we hoped, others want to believe there was or would eventually have been a better deal.

It's like how you always will lose on selling a used car, even if it's a valuable one. Unless it's a collector car. And athletes aren't collector cars.

That's part of the risk of big contracts in the cap era too, you are going to sacrifice talent value to claw back cap commitments, it's just a law of the universe now.

Well because I liked Phil and I don't care much for Bozak, JVR and Bernier.
If they were going for culture change why did they even re-sign Bernier and I care for him the least so It kind of pissed me off.

What options were there at the time

I liked (I mean loved Grabbo and Ian White). Glad as (frank) they are gone though. The thing with the Kessel trade is the big picture. That, along with the Clarkson and Dion deals have helped this club immensely going forward.

What were we gonna do. Have Kessel play out these 3 or 4 seasons for poops and giggles and then trade him after 3 more subpar seasons?

The thing with Kessel too is that it makes sense for Pittsburgh to go all-in right now, they have to, it's the Crosby/Malkin window. The timing with where the Leafs were in a cap system was a totally different situation.
- Zezel

But if they want to sign Stamkos why would they dump Kessel?
The 14 million Bozak, JVR and Bernier make would have been more than enough.

I don't understand why people aren't grasping why Phil got traded. Our fan base.

Shouldn't have traded Phil
Shouldn't have traded Colbourne
Shouldn't have traded Panik.

Stamkos is too old for a rebuild, but Kessel isn't

With Leafs Nation, if the day ever comes, some fans will be complaining about the parade route.

Just after the GM for acquiring such a poope lineup. Look at the names on that team. They did bloody well to make the playoffs

You said yourself Bernier is untradeable. So we gotta keep that money. Who's taking Bozak without giving salary back?

There is one of these believers too on the Sabres threaad.

Travis Yost was on our local radio this afternoon and said that he is 85% sure Stamkos is going to Toronto.

Alfsly, great post.

Because they decided to reset and rebuild. They couldn't count on Stamkos at the time. They were going to cut bait and rebuild anyway. Stamkos could possibly be a bonus to bring in now, after the rebuild appears to be doing well.

Cuz Berniers done after this year...JVR is worth his contract...if Bozo can stay healthy...he'll be traded too.

Bernier is now, but I was talking about when the management was bringing up culture change before the new contract.
Some GM would have given him a shot.
