I think the top 20 are a lot closer this year than last year, but yeah there isn't the same sort of high-end talent available this year.

I don't believe any scout said that about the 2011 draft. When Edmonton picked Ryan
(TED) Nuggent first. It was a slow year by any stretch. It is not an exact science, but the scouts knew that Gretzky was fantastic, Lemieux was great, Tavares, McDavid and by all indications the top two in this draft. There will be some busts but there is loads of talent in the first round this year. Overhypped? perhaps.
