Mornin all.

Can't wait for the draft to be over. Constant speculation is getting ridonculous.

Spatso thinks drafting Matthews is like losing a wallet.

- systemtool

If it's the wallet where we found Christian Hanson, this is great news.

The 5th. Draft Tkchuck as his younger, nastier, potential replacement. Or Juolevi

Yeah, I would agree that JVR is the value of a relatively high first rounder, but I wouldn't do it.

To say Laine is not proven (I'm inferring this, not your words) is somewhat untrue. Unproven in the NHL, but he's done very well in an professional league. I guess we'll find out in a couple years

- RickJames77

Though I know Laine is full of skills, i'm a little skeptical because he's on a stacked Finnish team that's probably going to win it all, as opposed to Matthews that's on a crappy bush team..

Both are awesome and both will succeed in the NHL.. but there's no way to tell which one will be better. In fact, we shouldn't really be comparing them right now. One's a flairing sniper and the other one is a 2-way that plays on all situations. Totally different skillset.

JVR alone is the equivalent value of a high 1st.
he is a known asset.

Laine is the current magic box everyone has a boner over currently ..he is Ovechkin and Selanne in 1

- senstroll

I think you are over evaluating JVR. he is not worth a top 5 pick by himself.

So essentially the 10th and Varlamov for the 29th and Bernier? Sold!

In this tournament, I totally agree (also I wasn't comparing Matthews and Laine in any way). I don't take much stock in it to be honest, but he also played exceptionally well in the Finnish elite league and won the playoff MVP.

My point being I wouldn't equate JVR to Laine even though JVR is proven in the NHL.

I agree 100%. No one in the league would trade Laine for JVR. That's just ridiculous.

So you think Vancouver would trade the 5th pick for JVR??? Keep dreaming. You should go on Vancouver threads and see what the fan base thinks of that one.

Agreed. I don't think anyone in the top 8, maybe 10 would trade their pick for JVR.
Would love to see a trade that nets us Sergachev for JVR - just don't see that top 10 team making that trade.

If Leafs could get 5th overall for JVR they would have done it already.

Just throwing this out there to create mayhem and chaos:

We got JVR from Philly for Luke Schenn.
