If Bernier plays 60 games next year the Leafs will be bottom 5 team. And I don't have a problem with that. Tank for another year. Offer sheet McJesus in summer of 2019 with 10 mill per year. Rebuild done. - Matthews_Auston
this post reminds me of the scene in Wunderlust... Cut to in the pond...
the Leafs were rebuilding ... then Cut to rebuild done .. Mcdavid
Wait what happened between 2016 and 2019? .. yeah i know its crazy...all of a sudden rebuild done

i think the Laine value meter for people is on the insane side currently - senstroll
The way I looked at was, the 2 2nds going in each direction are a wash, B prospect for a late 1st is a wash. It can be tough to find a B prospect in the late first.
Then you're left with Kap, JVR, and Gardiner for Laine. I wouldn't do that from a quality perspective and definitely not from a contract standpoint.

No way Jets do that trade.
Put it this way - in order to get it done, it would have to be painful. Losing Gards, JVR and the pics would suck but not painful.
Think more along the lines of losing Rielly or Nylander or Marner + something else of significance + picks......that's painful.

JVR alone is the equivalent value of a high 1st.
he is a known asset.
Laine is the current magic box everyone has a boner over currently ..he is Ovechkin and Selanne in 1

Yeah, I would agree that JVR is the value of a relatively high first rounder, but I wouldn't do it.
To say Laine is not proven (I'm inferring this, not your words) is somewhat untrue. Unproven in the NHL, but he's done very well in an professional league. I guess we'll find out in a couple years
