I love that Larry Brooks writes an article about a 3rd round pick being signed so now He is GREAT according the the Fanbase. I guess when you have no first round pick for a 3rd year straight you have to find someone to talk about in the system.

Except that he was rated as one of the best prospects in the world and not on a biased list either:

Buchnevich's numbers compare favorably to Kuznetsov's, Tarasenko's and Panarin's as well.

Picks outside of the first round succeed in the NHL.

The overall percentages fall in your side of this debate based on the sheer mathetmatics. But, there are plenty of examples of top flight players that are not first round selections around the NHL.

Brooks' article on Buchnevich is not what signaled excitement for the Ranger fan base. Since there is a dearth of top end prospects, in the organization, most fans kept their eye on his development in the KHL. If you can put your bias aside, for one second, you'll see Buchnevich is a top end prospect. Only reason he fell to the third round was sheerly based on his nationality and the fact that a lot of teams scare off of drafting Russian players already committed to the KHL. Kuznetsov fell to the late first round purely based off this.

If that 2010 first round were to be done again, Kuznetsov and Tarasenko are top five overall picks.

Lets just put it this way, I believe Rangers fans have a right to be excited to see how Buchnevich plays considering he is rated pretty high and has shown some great skill, as much as you guys should be excited to see Barzal play.

No one is making any wild predictions, or saying Buchnevich is going to be a star. Just nice to see a touted prospect possibly join the team.

Sometimes picks in the 1st round don't work out either (see: Bailey, Reinhart, Nino, O'Marra, add Ho Sang, Beauvillier, Dal Colle, and Barzal to the list shortly too)

All trolling aside, I think Barzal is going to be a good one.

I am guessing Mark Stone who was drafted in the 6th round that year is a first round pick too.. hindsight is always 20/20. Buchnevich dropped to 3rd round for a reason. That reason was he was Lazy. If you think a Russian kid described as Lazy is going to be a GREAT nhl player... so be it. I would wish you luck but I don't mean it.

If you can find any scouting reports that deem Buchnevich as lazy, and that being the reason he slipped to the third round, please share.

I remember 4 years ago when you guys were hyping up Reinhart as the next Shea Weber

Must be nice having prospects to always brag about considering you can't be proven wrong yet

Straw man.. no one said he was going to be "GREAT". So by your standard Ho-Sang will never amount to anything and just be a petulant little child.

The same site that suggested Steve Mason was the Metropolitan Division's best goaltender?

I'll look into this asap.
