They replace their center and we get the big right winger in pulujarvi which makes it so much easier to deal ebs


Depending on how badly they want a center and what we added, it's semi plausible anyway. But unlikely I'm sure. Pulujarvi has kind of been the forgotten man, but cbj probably knows how lucky they are to have him

but with 4th overall, you could trade down a couple spots, get a return for that, and then take one of Chycrun, Juolevi or that Russian guy whose name I can't spell.

I think those guys have at least the upside of Barrie and you get them on ELC's longer.

And that extra asset to trade down to still grab one of those defenders (which is an entirely plausible thing that pc might do) just won't be the caliber of true impact guy I don't think. I just don't see someone so separate to get dubois or tkachuk, they're gonna give up a ton to trade up to 4.
And certainly nowhere near the caliber of Tyson Barrie

As an oiler fan I certainly won't say we got screwed in draft luck, but yeah, too bad we dropped to 4. Far less options due to far less value I think

I think for sure Kekalainen wants the young Finn. And I wouldn't trade Nuge for that pick. When I think Nuge in his prime I think Patrice Bergeron or Pavel Datsyuk, an elite 2 way center.

I really don't think Barrie is worth the 4th overall. Sure he's an offensive dynamo and a top 4, but he's small, not great defensively, and not a top pairing guy.

I think its a little of both. Friedman mentioning he thinks Barrie is in play has turned into some actively shopping him story line.

Barrie is a notable RFA with potentially some contract trouble....I wouldnt doubt he is in play at the moment, Avs taking phone calls to see what teams would offer up for him if contract talks go south.

But some writers. and mouth breathers on this site think Avs are actively trying to give him away.

Newport plays the game...they probably are being ridiculously high right now, trying to sucker the Avs into signing him without the cap being announced.

Once they announce the cap, their demands probably will change a bit...then they will drag out contract talks all the way to the arbitration date, sign something last minute.

Like they have done with Petro, Subban, ROR, etc. They do it a lot with the RFA clients

yeah there is definitely a group from 4-10. 4 and 5, presumably Tkachuk and Dubois may be slightly ahead, but not enough over 6-10 to get too much back. You also don't want to get past 9 or so if you want a Dman. So the pick has value, but not quite enough.

I did wonder a while ago if you could get Shattenkirk with the pick... presuming of course Shattenkirk agreed to sign.
