Me and Mrs. Wedgie spent a delightful 4 days in BC last summer. 2 days in Whistler, 2 days in Vancouver.

I ski-bumbed in Whister for a couple years; Mrs. Wedgie did her MBA at UBC. So it's "like home for us."

Had a great little vacation. No little Wedgies.

Anyhoo, fast forward a couple of months and we are at a party. We were talking about how much we loved Vancouver, and some woman goes ballistic - she was raised in Vancouver, the entire city as been ruined, nobody lives in the houses they bought, it's killing all the local retail, nobody can afford to live there, she would never, ever go back, etc.

It was franking awkward!

The scenery is beautiful, we have three cabins by Howe Sound (accessible by ferry or boat only) but it doesn't compare to the neighbourhood we left near Lorne Park, much nicer family community.

Yost is actually trying to assess value for the 1st overall, based on NHL Games played for draft positions.

Some of his trade suggestions, that he describes as fair value, are absurd. How the (frank) does someone spew this nonsense and keep their job.

Winthrop Washington was the most beautiful place I've ever been. Stayed in a 5 star mountaintop hotel for only 160 American a night. It was insane...that I only stayed 2 days.

Assessing the value of each pick based on games played is a good START to measuring the value of any given pick. There should then however be adjustments made based on the quality of picks (i.e. PPG), and also based on realistic comparable players.


And with all that in mind, the valuations hold more true for later picks where the delta(value) from pick to pick is much less significant. When a guy like Matthews is available, you don't move the #1.

I enjoyed my week at a 4-star apart-hotel in Canmore... awesome view of the mountains, and only $145 a night for a 2-bed, 950 sqft apartment... My suite at the Fairmont in San Jose was also pretty awesome, but it didn't have the same quality of view

There is no way to ever make a statistical analysis for the draft. It is impossible past maybe the top-5. People fall. People rise. Players hit their peaks and lows earlier and later. You need to base it on the individual which is the harder and more time consuming method, but it's the only way. Comparing players in the same league to theirs, the timeframe, the use, the style of play. Hell if you based things on this metric you might think Raffi Torres was an amazing pick...I mean...the guy played over 600 games.
