Last 2 years its been the same thing though … out 6-7 possible rentals to start the season, 3-4 are sold off at the TDL.

Not everyone is tradeable.

Just looked at the projected roster for next season. Lou will have to work some magic for Marner to even have a chance. We just don't have enough room for him at this point imo... Anyone know if he can play overseas?

who do you see as the top 6 wingers?

jvr, and likely nylander being the only two defacto top 6 wingers... i could see them keeping him to play a top 6 winger role.

for him it will be about off ice conditioning and strength over the summer... big difference from pro men and junior teenagers

They have too many guys signed to 1 way deals next year.

I don't see the organization just allowing him to hop over the likes of Leivo, Brown, Sosh, Hyman, Leipsic for a spot unless he really blows them away which I don't see happening with how impressive those 5 have been.

1 or 2 of Laich, Lupul, Greening, Mihalek all somehow have to disappear, and with the Leafs potentially adding Stamkos, and Vessey it makes it even more unlikely.

Yeap....and in 3 years when the team is better...he'll likely be a third line guy with hands.

If Marner gets a little stronger this off-season he'll be with the Leafs. He's too good for Junior now.

1 way deals doesn't have anything to do with it.

1 way = NHL contract
2 way = NHL money at NHL level, lower money at AHL level.

has nothing to do with waiver exemption and such.

they can still demote guys on one way deals

wouldnt be optimal cap wise but it still could be done. i dont think anyone on the leafs have an actual NMC now correct?

but lets face it... it is only year two of the rebuild... if they can move guys like that you mentioned out as the season progresses great... what will be tough is if the leafs actually do overachieve and are in the hunt for a playoff spot. if the leafs are in this position it will make things tough on management...because you would want those guys for the run... you still need leadership and experience on the roster or you become the oilers.

i also wouldnt be surprised if the leafs moved some of those guys you mentioned (young guys) over the off season in order to land a young top 4 d man (hopefully right handed) or a andersen type goalie. young enough to be around a long while... experienced enough not to be shell shocked.
