First things first - nice blog, Jan. I agree with the C- and I bet that Rick Nash would, too.
I repeat my opinion that dumping Nash now leaves a lot of money on the table. With only two years remaining on his contract, I say let his pride help him to rebound to whatever extent he can this season and look to move him at the trade deadline. Either someone who feels they need to make a move will offer REAL assets, or we keep a premier winger who is (hopefully) playing pretty well. Either way, better than selling low at the draft table.
As for the trade talk here, what is the need for drastic measures? Don't we have multiple solid goaltending prospects in the system? Let Hank be Hank for as long as he can and make some small(ish) upgrades. Yandle and his desire to be flashy at the expense of defense can walk. Or, trade his rights to get SOMETHING back. E. Staal, thanks but that was a failed experiment. Right there, lots of cap space.
If we have to trade forwards, Brass should go over Step. I love them both, but we need Step more simply because WE CAN'T KEEP GIVING UP 20 QUALITY SCORING CHANCES A GAME!!!! Sorry, got a little excited there.
Yes we need scoring, too. But this is not the 1980's. You can't just score your way to a Cup anymore. - Tonybere
I'm not saying we should trade either i'm just saying who i would rather trade - Yea i agree with what your saying and it isn't the 80's anymore but this team isn't built on scoring - it was built on goaltending and defense. |

Yandle isn't as good as Staal defensively. I'd be willing to start the season:
McD/Klein
Skjei/McI
Staal/Girardi - mames11
That could be a very troublesome 3rd pairing, if things don't go as planned (long offseason w/out lingering injuries, and both of them showing some semblance of their old selves).
If they don't improve off of last season, than it's gonna be a long season |

Adam Rotter on SNY metioned how young NYR "could" be next year:

in all seriousness whats your plan? - mrn22
I honestly don't care either way. As long as is it isn't half assed. Either go the rebuild or just add a couple pieces to stay competitive. I'm easy like that. |

I wouldn't mind getting a shoot 1st talented winger. Been saying that all year. Other than that, just fill out the bottom 2 lines a bit. Whether its with the Rangers farm team or a cheap UFA doesn't really matter much.
I would take a chance on Yak if the price was extremely cheap. Also would love to find a way to pry Nichushkin away from Dallas.

For Mcdonagh or Lundqvist. Doubt those moves happen. |

I think Skjei and a pick could land Nichushkin |

For McDonagh or Lundqvist, I would expect Benn or Seguin.
Nichushkin would likely require Skjei at a minimum though. |

We don't need 1st round picks when we draft elite talent like Gropp who carry scrubs like Barzal |

Trade Rick Nash. |
