Trading Henrik (even tho he wouldn't accept) would signal a rebuild
I don't get the fear in changing the complexion of this team a bit. - mrn22
Depends on what you are replacing it with. I have no fear of changing the team, but if they are going to (lets just say for arguments sake), buy out Girardi and put a rookie in his place, and trade Nash for picks and prospects, I would say thats the start of a rebuild. No way the Rangers are better next year by doing that. |

I agree - and i think if you are buying out Girardi then you are replacing him with a rookie - wouldn't they have to still pay like 3mill for him next year if they bought him out |

all joking aside, Yandle stepped up big time during that period - jimbro83
Yes he did. Its why I would rather lose Staal (I know that's a million to 1 shot) and have McDonagh/Yandle/Skjei down the left side.
As much as I wanted Yandle gone at the trade deadline to get some picks back, the fact they didn't, I would take him over Staal no questions asked. |

Yeah, I'm not sure what the numbers would be, Jimbo posted them a little bit ago.

RFA, I love Barrie, perfect fit - jimbro83
Barrie would be a great acquisition. It will cost us a quality, quality player though. Kreider+ or Zuccarello or Brassard probably. |

As TPC says I wanna fast forward and figure out what theyre gunna do. Very excited to see how creative Gorton can get with this situation to attempt to stay in contention while Hank is still Hank.
We all need to hope that getting booted in 5 games is enough of a wake up call for them to change things up |

Krieder for Barrie is an interesting trade with both of them needing contracts. TPC don't shoot! |

when they traded Gomez, it didn't signal a rebuild
they used the money to sign Gaborik |

yeah, definitely - jimbro83
Avs may look towards defense though. Skjei most likely. |

I don't know about you guys but i would rather trade Stepan then brass - granted step has a better two way game then brass but i think offensively they are a wash although scoring wise i think brass is better and he makes less on the cap compared to Step |

Trade Hank for Torontos 1st. Get Matthews. Trade Brass for Barrie. Trade Hayes for Nichushkin. Trade Staal with salary retained for Shatty. Easy peasy. |

I agree. Just feel as though the Avs biggest need is defense, and dealing Barrie only makes that more of an issue. Maybe Klein but then you have to throw in some high draft picks. |

No way. Stepan >>>>>Brass
I still think Brass would be a better winger. |

First things first - nice blog, Jan. I agree with the C- and I bet that Rick Nash would, too.
I repeat my opinion that dumping Nash now leaves a lot of money on the table. With only two years remaining on his contract, I say let his pride help him to rebound to whatever extent he can this season and look to move him at the trade deadline. Either someone who feels they need to make a move will offer REAL assets, or we keep a premier winger who is (hopefully) playing pretty well. Either way, better than selling low at the draft table.
As for the trade talk here, what is the need for drastic measures? Don't we have multiple solid goaltending prospects in the system? Let Hank be Hank for as long as he can and make some small(ish) upgrades. Yandle and his desire to be flashy at the expense of defense can walk. Or, trade his rights to get SOMETHING back. E. Staal, thanks but that was a failed experiment. Right there, lots of cap space.
If we have to trade forwards, Brass should go over Step. I love them both, but we need Step more simply because WE CAN'T KEEP GIVING UP 20 QUALITY SCORING CHANCES A GAME!!!! Sorry, got a little excited there.
Yes we need scoring, too. But this is not the 1980's. You can't just score your way to a Cup anymore. |

Yandle isn't as good as Staal defensively. I'd be willing to start the season:
McD/Klein
Skjei/McI
Staal/Girardi |
