Go read the blog on how the Oilers should not trade anyone. Does that writer have a clue as to the team he is referring to?
A team loaded with Superstars? Really?
Their window to win a Cup is a few years from now? If they meant winning the Cup means finishing anywhere other than the divisional basement, then maybe...

Oilers are loaded at forward, especially in their top six, but that defense...oh that defense is woeful.
Oilers need to do whatever they can to address that because as Talbot proved, while in NY, put a good defense in front of him and he can look like a starting goaltender. But, until they address that blueline, Oilers are going nowhere fast; even while boasting the likes of McDavid, Draisatl and Hall.

all I saw on twitter yesterday was how bad Talbot looked for Canada in the World Championships. I am not even sure what happened, I just saw a million tweets complaining about him |

Ice is more wide open there and Canada's defense is likely not that strong. Perennial Canadian Olympic defensemen, Boumeester and Pietrangelo, are still fighting for the cup, as well as Letang and Burns.
Don't think Talbot is all that either but, to be fair, he did show well when Hank went down. Obviously, a lot of credit goes to that Rangers team's defensive structure, but he did make the saves when called upon. |

A lot of people forget that when Hank went down, Talbot was Swiss cheese the first 3 or 4 games. He let in between 4 and 6 goals basically every game...we just happened to win each one by scoring 5-7.
Then we tightened up defensively and Talbot also increased his play and we went on a tear. |

Their most memorable win of the season, the 6-5 comeback against the Isles in late February, the Rangers had to overcome several deficits because Talbot was a dumpster fire that game.
Those that thought the Rangers could get a first round pick, for a late blooming 1A goalie, were out to lunch. |

I recall hearing about something like that, too. Think it was a day or two before the draft and he held out to see what he could get on the actual draft day. |

“At times it might have looked like there were better deals [available] but it didn’t manufacture that way,” said assistant GM Jeff Gorton, who spoke for the team. “In any scenario we would like to have gotten more.” |

With Gorton taking over the reigns right after the draft, I am pretty sure that he was running the ship on the Talbot trade as well. Why would the lame duck GM be making that call?

Why do I feel like he will say something like this again this year when we may be able to unload a Nash or Staal and he turns it down for the same reason.

"Indeed, the Rangers had seemed confident they could either move into the first round or get a pair of second-rounders out of the auction that included the Oilers, Flames, Sharks, Stars, Sabres and Panthers. Indeed, as The Post reported Saturday, Florida had offered Jimmy Hayes, Kevin Hayes’ older brother, in a package for Talbot." |
