I was positive Rust was gonna (frank) up with the puck there. Can't believe I ever doubted him - Victoro311
rust is a decent little player, but its funny how everything on that sequence was the exact opposite of what makes him useful.
usually its speed speed speed on net. create bounces. whirlwind his way into being annoying.
that was just great patience. and not the most challenging of passes, but it was perfect. right in the wheelhouse. |

Rust's biggest weakness is size, and finishing ability. Size can't do much about, and isn't a deathblow of course... I expect his shots for breakaways and prime chances to be heavily worked on over the summer. |

Welcome to the series Sid! I guess we have to give credit where credit is due to a Domer with the helper. That was needed. Hopefully that gets him rolling. |

agreed. i dont think hell ever develop into a great scorer. but even when he isnt scoring, he has shown that he can do the little things to still be useful. was winning puck battles, beating out icings, keeping the puck in.
all the poop that sheary wasnt doing. |

Funny everyone jumps all over kunitz. i still cant help but wonder if the scores 2-1 with our number 1 in net. - Grinder47
Murray had a bad game. I wouldn't be opposed to inserting fleury into this series. I think his quickness is more important against a team like Tampa |

Flower makes big saves bc he is out of position and has to stretch back to make it...
If it's me.. I'm trading DP for drouin lol |

Don't need every prospect to become elite... just solid. Another Hagelin in Rust is more than enough next year. |

rust with great patience. hes typically shoot shoot shoot. that was great.
(frank) yeah. even the first shift they had out there.
crosby had a great game with lots of little things. not to pile on the guy, but getting rid of sheary was all the difference. - stayinthefnnet
Speaking of Sheary, did he play at all in the third? |

that could be huge for him mentally.
that drouin goal made me absolutely sick, but overall, the team really had some good moments.
the HBK line just is what it is at this point. my whipping boy fehr had some very, very good moments.
dominated possession for a while, had a lot of ones where they simply couldnt cash in, but vashlievsky played ridiculously well too. |

Ditto.
Interesting thought about replacing Sheary with Sundqvist. Sheary may need to see a few games from upstairs at the moment. |

Is Rust actually small? I see him list 5'11 190 lbs. that is pretty much the same listed measurements of crosby and hornqvist |

Crosby came alive sometime in the second. Wasn't having a good game up until that point but then broke out.
Malkin went through the whole emotional spectrum tonight. Seemed completely frustrated and ineffective some shifts and completely determined and dominant other shifts. I think with our current mix of forwards, Sully is going to have to continue shuffling lines like he did this game so that our star players take shifts with the linemates they need since HBK obviously needs to keep getting a lot of shifts together. I know it's not ideal but I was a huge fan of the shuffling. It's what we needed this game. Bylsma would have never made any of those changes |

definitely. they just need to be able to contribute in ways even when they arent scoring.
even kuhnackle, the guy i thought the least of originally, is finding ways to do that on the fourth line. not lighting the world on fire, and granted its an easier job than being told to be on the first line, but he can keep up with cullen and fehr and help them win boardplay and get the puck out.
rust does his little things. i dont quite think he is hagelin, but in that vein. sheary, i just dont know. i realize the NYR series will be the high water mark of his career, but damn. i was willing to give him a mulligan for the washington series. but the spots are there for him right now and he is just murdering momentum.
and i dont think its an effort thing. the guy is trying. he's just out of his league right now. |

He's not an NHL calibre top 6, his upside is being negated out there by a very fast team, nothing he can really do. Unfortunately there isnt really anyone to take his place on Sids line, Sundqvist isn't going to cut it either.
Although Sid getting that monkey off his back is huge. |

I've seen him in person. He's not bulky like Sid but he's also not undersized like Sheary or Wilson. He's on the low end of average size for an NHL forward. |

I think Crosby really came alive when he was reunited with Kunitz with Hornqvist.

Sheary could still become something... but maybe he is just getting gassed now with these higher minutes. Yeah, he got those minutes in WBS, but its a damn harder and rougher game up here. |

yeah you could see the full spectrum on malkin for sure. he wears it both on his face and in the way he handles the puck.
and yeah. crosby became so much more engaged. the guy still has 3 or 4 great passes every game. but he started throwing the body. looking to shoot. and really generating a cycle in the second half. |
