i don't understand why this is still even a topic. everyone here has complained that we don't have a true #1C, and the chance we finally get to draft one, and they want to talk about potentially taking a winger? craziness. laine will be good, but he doesn't win you a cup, just like ovy doesn't win you a cup. you need that big body center who does everything, and matthews is exactly that.

and have either of those 2 won a cup? no. matthews is compared to kopitar, who has 2 cups. big bodied 2 way centers are worth more than a scoring winger.

Or if the Leafs were picking 3rd how Tkachuk is way better than Pulajakjalaida. Or if the Leafs were picking 4th how Dubois is clearly the right choice. It's a team sport though. Look at Thornton. He's everything you could ever want from a #1 center and if they lose to St Louis he'll probably never get another shot at a cup. Is that his fault? No.
