Sobotka is a Center.

Probably be a 3rd line center on Van. 28 years old, Stl doesn't really have cap space or room for him. Damn good on faceoffs, his last two years in STL he had a 60 and 56% win percentage. Probably would be a 30-40 point player at maximum.

I understand JB trading for players because he is trying to bridge the gap between the 30 plus and the 19-20 year old players.

I would consider giving up a 3rd or 4th rounder for him in 2017.

I don't have a lot of faith in Biega or Pedan either. Pedan is getting better but if Van could i'd like to see him sent down to Utica before waivers take affect and play top pairing minutes in the AHL and play them well before he gets a shot at the club.

lol, I had typed out Svobotka or whatever earlier, kept thinking of the old dman but knew it was a different player.

If Pedan could be sent down and not exposed to waivers, that might be the best move. Sooner or later though, they will have to play him with the big club and experience his growing pains. I remember reading that he was on the top pairing in Utica for a period last season and played well.

I am not sold on Granlund as 4th line centre. But not sure where he would slot in otherwise.

We've gone through numerous non-stick pans because my wife keeps putting them in the dishwasher. Watching my wife struggle through domestic tasks has given me a whole new appreciation for my own mother. She managed our house like a finely tuned machine.

Yeah, mine used to put the pots in the dishwasher. she learned quickly she can't do that. Yeah I have been sending her to go see my mother a lot over the years to watch and learn how to run a household. I really shouldn't complain about mine just doing things a bit differently on occasion. She is a lot better then girls i've dated that were older then she is. A lot better!

Of all of my teammates, I’ve gotten to know my roommate, Brad Marchand, the most. He’s a completely different guy off the ice. When I first got roomed up with him, I thought I was in for a long three weeks here, but it’s been great getting to know him.

JB is going to trade Hutton to BOS for a new D that is a fringe NHLer but requires waivers next year and is likely considered a little worse than Hutton by panel experts

Oh and also will include a 5th rounder to sweeten the deal

Don't get me started. But I'll give JB a pass because I think other GMs try to take advantage of a rookie. Hard to make good trades when that happens. It will get easier for him.

I think we are being set up. PR move to soften the inevitability.

if you want to be a champian, you have to surround yourself with champians.

"Let me clear something up. After we won, a bunch of us got tattoos here in the dressing room of the Garden. Mine originally was misspelled. Instead of saying Stanley Cup Champions it said Stanley Cup Champians. I don't even know how that happened. After I got it, I came in the room and someone was like it says champians ... with an a."

random question:
What would you realistically trade for Yakupov?
22 yrs old. signed for one more year @ 2.5m
potential 2nd line winger (20 + 20 seems reasonable targets).
could buddy up with Tryamkin.

I'd offer a signed Pedan and Torts 2nd.

what say you?

I think Yak will turn it around, and the price your offering seems modest enough that I would in a heartbeat, but I doubt thats enough for a former 1OA 4 years ago to the Oilers.

I would go so far as to offer Hansen, a defenseman and VAN's own 2nd (in the year CBJ finally gives up theirs) to acquire him

I would offer the torts 2nd. I would honestly prefer the torts 2nd be used in gaining a player though. There is plenty of talent in the 2nd round, especially considering CBJ probably will continue to be a bad tab for a few more years and the pick could be a higher 2nd round pick .

I doubt theyd trade him to a rival for that....

I also have reservations about any player from such a troubled team

Hansen, Biega and Van's 2nd for Yak and a 4th.
Probably more fair (from Edm's pov)

i think that you have to look at the situation from the other perspective i.e. what does edm need/want?

i think that if edm is going to make a sizable trade (which yak would be), they are going to be looking for a decent top 6 dman (possibly top 4) that can jump into the lineup right now and a decent pick/prospect. the better the roster player, the less the pick/prospect (obviously). for the canucks, that means starting at tanev or edler. that's just robbing peter to pay paul.

realistically, i just don't see the 2 teams as being ideal trading partners as their substantial needs are in the same position.

2017 is considered an especially weak draft year...2018 will be deep they say.

You can bet it'll be a 2017 2nd. We are better off letting it go in trade since it holds more value being an unknown year than if it were 2017. Being a free pick too I dont mind trading it for assets

Yak is not a sizable trade imo.
He is surplus to needs, has not developed as hoped and is largely a 3rd line player with 2nd line potential (regardless of where he was drafted).

I think Edm has the top 6 sorted, and needs some role players or utility players.
Hansen has more value at the moment than Yak, although Yak is considerably younger. Adding Biega and a 2nd is to offset the potential that Yak has, but at this stage, it is just potential.

if we're trading Tanev, i want more than Yak, i want to look at RNH (although we'd have to add)
