If the rumors about the Flyers trying to trade up with Florida were true, Hexy isn't averse to potentially doing big deals. Of course, that was in pursuit of a franchise dman. He wasn't afraid to give up assets to go get Konency in a smaller trade last season.

If he tries to get #2 overall, I'm pretty sure Schenn would be part of the package. The development of Friedman and Myers could make Sanheim expendable. If Laine is considered a franchise changing forward, he could become the main cog of the offense as the defensemen grow together and G still is an important cog, just not the main cog. I like Schenn, but his trade value probably isn't going to be much higher then right now. Still an RFA, 26 goal scorer, who showed a real physical edge in the playoffs.

Friedman won't make Sanheim expendable. Myers projects more as big-framed puck-mover than big points guy.

The Jets will likely also want an NHL roster player. The 18th overall, high-end prospect (Sanheim, for example) and a top-six forward would be extortionate but likely about accurate price tag for the 2nd overall plus something else.

In a trade of this potential magnitude, it's going to take a lot. Sanheim is the type of prospect who should have some significant value at this time of his development (Bill, you are a lot more savvy at the draft and prospects then myself). The cupboard is pretty bear in the pipeline for high end potential wingers like Laine. On the blueline, there are still other decent options if Sanheim goes, not as good of course.

It's fun fodder to think about this time of year, doubt it happens. However, I have always been of the belief Hexy would trade young assets to acquire another high end young asset. He certainly has assets at his disposal. I don't think he's in a hurry to trade, but I'm quite certain he is doing his due diligence.

Not sure why everyone is so willing to dismiss Sanheim's talent he can score...
He is a big kid too!!

Give them Hagg-Laughton-2nd & 3rd 2016

It's not dismissing Sanheim's talent; Imo it's acknowledging his talent. We know we'd have to give up a highly valued D prospect such as Sanheim to get our foot in the door of conversation for a top pick that would select a "generational talent potential" player such as Laine.

We all know this isn't happening, right? Know your source.

And we all know if they trade Laine -- which they won't -- Sanheim + 18 + Laughton or whatever is not getting it done for a potentially generational scorer, right?

Let's talk about more realistic things like signing all dem free agents!

A budget team like Winnipeg is never going to trade a cost controlled potential superstar in Laine. Also since they are on just about every players no-trade list, the draft is the only way they can get such a player.

First part is a very good point. Second sentence is more hyperbole.

I hear you, but I feel that Matthews or Laine and Provorov are all better prospects than Sanheim, so I'd make the deal. Along with a blue chip impact forward prospect, you'd still have Provorov, Konecny, Morin, Lindblom, Leier, Aube-Kubel, Hagg, Fazleev, Myers and 3 or 4 solid goalie prospects. Plus, young guys like Ghost and perhaps Cousins already on the roster too.
- BiggE

We trade Sanheim, he wins the noris elsewhere. He'll be Provorov's Suter, making Provorov Weber.

Agree. Snowball's chance in hell Jets trade that pick. And should they for argument's sake, teams in the top 10 ,probably top 5 really are the only ones who have a shot. 18 to 2,given who is in play, way too far of a leap without paying an arm and a leg.

Gone are the days you could trade Rusty Fedotenko and 2 2nds for the 4th overall to get Joni Pitkanen.

I mean they have very good depth....but that's deceptive. They have Lehtera and Brouwer as their 1C and 2RW too. We have G and Jake in those spots. Steen is the 2nd best forward on their team. They just spread their talent out. Their middle 2 lines both get pretty equal ice time too. And their 4th gets nothing close to what ours gets.

Polak is the worst. Puck skills of a handless Schultz. He can't complete a pass to a stick.

He was the main piece of a package for 2 2nds......

CBC ripping Pavelski for his poor dzone play, especially after losing a draw.
