Toronto should swap with Winnipeg draft Laine, get something else for swapping and I hate to say it sign stamkos. Thats a good start to a line

Nope draft Matthews and sign stamkos if you can. For one thing there's no way of knowing that you'll be able to get stammer till after the draft and secondly Stamkos and Matthews are different types of players. Stammer is a pure goal scorer and Matthews is a 200ft two way player. You win with the elite two way center.

Mathews is a head of Laine no doubt. I've watched a little of both at the worlds and Mathews has shown that he's better for me. Despite Laine having a few more points.

Dregger and farraro both have said Mathews has outplayed Laine this tournament

I asked if Patrik has yet to catch Matthews and the source said, "No, but he is absolutely starting to get the old 'generational tag' connected to him...

So if he hasn't yet caught up to matthews but is getting the generational tag then Matthews must be a generational prospect.

That is becoming such a over used term.

The quote sounds made up anyways.

Only team I think tries to make a serious play is ARZ. They could package #7, #20, Duclair and maybe another prospect for #2. If they really want, then turn around and trade Domi + #2 to TOR for #1 and Kapanen...

So domi duclait #7 and #20 for 1st and kapanen. I doubt they do it. Plus if Toronto is giving up #1 I doubt they add anything. Domi is better than kapanen but the Leafs will want a center.

They may, Matthews is a local guy and they may want to pay the premium for it...it was just a thought. In reality the most likely deal comes out of EDM, likely to ANA for Vatanen.

Eklund is such a Leafs hater... it's hilarious. Dude, we all know these are your opinions, and not sources.

Garf said the deal would be the #1 for the #4, Domi, OEL, Strome and more picks.

That's what Garf said.

No, really.

McDavid was third in ppg in the whole nhl in his rookie year. People make far too much about his injury and dont realize 48 points in 45 games in this day and age is redonkulous. Practically God like in todays NHL as a rookie. His two way game very impressive as well.

So far he is meeting the generational tag. Will he continue to? Who knows.

Mathews, Eichel, etc... Are great players but not generational.

Curious does anyone do OEL and the 7th for 1st? I know Arizona said they weren't trading OEL but from the Leafs perspective leafs get their top pairing dman but chances are they grab a dman with the 7th pick. Is it worth passing up on an elite 2 way center.

It's OK man anyone who's not ridiculous knows that mcdavid is insanely good and might be the best player in the league as soon as next year.

The chances of grabbing a D Man as good as OEL with the 7th are pretty slim.

I know that I'm saying 1st for OEL and the 7th (where the Leafs most likely grab another dman) should the Leafs if it was an option take OEL and another high end d prospect over drafting Matthews. Just curious as to how people value the two positions.

Edit: Arizona has already said they won't be trading OEL but if the Leafs could get him and Dubois it'd be interesting

Only reason guys like him are trying to make it seem like Laine is going to be better is because they know the leafs will pick Mathews because he's the consensious number 1

if Laine is better they would pick him they have the opportunity to however he is not. Not close at all

I wouldn't make that deal unless I knew I had a #1 center somewhere . Too bad the draft didn't come after free agency , eh?

I agree with you about the people like Eklund d trying to create hype but I wouldn't say it's not close. Laine may put up more points than Matthews in the nhl. But there's more to hockey than just offense.

100% Bubba. Kinda like the small handful of Sabres fans that tried unsuccessfully to campaign the Eichel>McDavid....for like..2 days maybe.

Yeah from the Leafs stand point it'd be nice if they knew they were getting stammer but like I said earlier you can't take the chance and miss out on two top line centers

if Columbus was interested in swapping picks and adding some the Jets would be wise to listen. I like Puliujarvi (spelling)

McDavid will be the best player in the world very soon. I was one of the guys who seen the pts eichel put up in college and watched him play in the world js and thought he might be as good or better but from watching them both play in the nhl it's obvious eichel is a great player but mcdavid is special.

Edit: i know you've probably watched a lot more of him than I did. How do you feel about mcdavids defensive game?

it's funny when people call Ek a Leaf hater than turn around and quote anyone on TSN, when they are all huge Leaf fans and chug the Kool-aid.

Yeah it's not like you're (frank)ing yourself with too many top line Centers . Like it was a real issue for Yzerman/Federov, Sakic/Forseberg , Mess/Gretz, Kopitar/Carter, etc...
