I hear that. I might take my company up to Fort Mac with all the work that needs to be done there. |

If the Arizona Coyotes are thinking clearly, they should declare that they have no intention of making a pitch to Toronto for hometown boy Auston Matthews.
Sure, it would be a nice story if a kid who grew up in Scottsdale could become the face of the re-organized Arizona franchise, but the only sensible way for that to happen disappeared when the Coyotes failed to land the number-one draft pick in the lottery.
Getting Matthews via trade, if it were remotely possible, would require a completely irrational offer, not the kind you want to make if details managed to leak out. No other team is about to lose its mind over Matthews, for as good as he might be, he’s not about to make the NHL forget who Connor McDavid is. Matthews doesn’t become a better player if he’s a Coyote. Arguably, it could be the worst thing for him. He doesn’t need to be a saviour. And no, he won’t be that in Toronto. The Leafs’ saviours all wear suits and have offices.
Dave Hodge needs to retire and take Don Cherry with him. |

I don't mind either of them. Still waiting for the day Cherry drops some real racist poop on air and they force him into retirement. |

Well no poop Hall/laine. He's only been 6 years older and been playing in the NHL. - Jeropotato
I think that is the part people are missing and you are right it is obvious. Why trade an NHL ready forward just to get a prospect and a dman that is ready. We offer up RNH, Eberle and/or Hall at there current value for dmen that are ready now then we are changing problems. Our top 6 right now are
Hall RNH Leon
Maroon Connor Eberle
That is a great top 6 but this is Connor and Leon's second year. They need talent to go with them. There is a lot of way to address things in the UFA list both offensively and defensively but right now any trade to these top 6 isn't going to get us market value. |

So hypothetically if the oilers keep the 4 pick would rather rather Dubois or tkachuk. I've been higher on tkachuk but lately have been leaning towards Dubois. Tkachuk isn't the best skater and I'm growing more concerned that tkachuk is benefiting from playing with marner on a very good London team... Kinda like when gagner was elevated in London by playing with Kane. |

I hope we trade the pick outright or trade down and grab a dman. But if we were to keep it, I'd prefer Dubois because of skating ability and size |

It seems like that was forever ago that pick. I just looked him up. He's still only 30 years old. Playing in the Swiss league. |

I agree. I think Dubois is the pick if we do keep it. Tkachuks line mates had 121 and 116 points so you can't help to wonder if he was carried a bit. |

No that would be great. But not for the sake of a veteran like we did with Ference. Maroon brings a lot for his price point. With the way Hall and McDavid are dominating (finally as the top line - Perry joking that he can't keep up with their speed) at the Worlds, it seems RNH is the odd man out. I think it is better safe to wait a year with Leon but there are a ton of UFA names that could help out in a top 6. I know I mentioned Perron as he was obvious in terms of a cheap player that might have motivation if not desire to return to the city of champions (it no longer gets capitals ) There are just too many to list. From Stamkos that would be overkill to reclamtion projects like Stewart. I think the answer for the Oilers is obviously between those two skill groups. The Oilers could very easily move a forward for a dman and get a good UFA forward to fill in. Trading RNH and signing Okposo for example might be a great move.
Truth is that this year is almost a completely new story for the Oilers. UFA's MIGHT want to sign in Edmonton which hasn't been the case for a while. They are on the precipice of being a playoff team for a long time. Not sure what they can do when there but I like their odds of making it for the next decade. Players know this as much as commentators do. Too early for Vegas odds but it will be interesting to see. |
