Especially when you consider that Carolina already has Victor Rask and Jordan Staal as comparable Cs on their team and no comparable D to take over for Faulk. It makes NO sense for them.

Same here. Faulk and Sekera reunited on the Oil.

I'd say Barrie is close to Faulk but hasn't been exposed as much. Vatanen is worse than Barrie and even less experienced in a top pairing role.

Faulk is definitely the best out of the 3 but I don't think Barrie is that close to him. Defensively Vatanen is the strongest of the 3 but atleast Faulk plays PK as well. The thing with Barrie that concerns me for someone that will get paid big bucks is he isn't a PK guy. Ideally a top D making big bucks should be able to play in all situations.

We still ideally need 2 top 4 D for next year and if any of these guys could be acquired Chia needs to pursue them but if I had my wish I would be satisfied with the D looking like this next year:

Sekera Vatanen
Davidson Gryba (or whomever)

I'm all about Faulk, but Carolina won't be moving him of their own volition. Barrie is the right move as of now.

I don't think he's quite that high, but he has been playing top pairing minutes since entering the league. Carlson is a very strong defensive player while Faulk is only average in that regard.

Yeah I think Carlson is still ahead but I think Faulk closed the gap a bit last year and I wouldn't be surprised to see him do more of the same.
